T10 USB data cable trouble.

Hello guys.
A few day ago i purchased myself a brand new iRiver T10 1Gb FM. I`ve got home very happy about my new gadget, eagerly to test it.
I install the software from the CD (iRiver plus v2.xx). After the first run, it promtes me to uptade to version 3.xx, so I do. After that I connect the player to the PC via an usb cable from a Sony digitalcam, it promtes me to update the firmware to 1.76. I click "ok", the firmware updating bar apears and the an error about "could not complete firmware update" . I say, nevermind it, I`l do it later and then I try to upload some music to it, but after uploading 2 mp3s it gives me an error about "no free disk space" . (I knew that my player it`s all empy) So I try to disconnect the device and reconnect it. The player freezed with the message "transferring data" so I had to remove the batery to reset it. I tryed a few more times to upload music to it via iRiver plus or drag&drop, but with no success. Being in a bit of hury because I had to go to my parents house, I disconnect the player and leave.
Later on I try again to upload music to my player, this time on my parents computer. So again I install the software from the CD (v.2.xx), run it and connect the player via a Cannon usb cable. This time all worked smoothly, I managed to upload mp3s to player, configure FM channel list, etc.
Today I got back to my home and try to delete some mp3s and add others to the player. But no good. I`ve encounterd the same problem.
So I start google-ing, reading around forums & stuff, to see if anyone has the same problem as me.
I even tryed to manualy upgrade the firmware, tryed changeing it from UMS to MPT, but with no success.
I reboot my PC in Linux to see if there`s the same problem. Well, Amarok doesen`t work, and the ifp sofware from the repo it`s no good.
So I reboot back to Windows, try a few more times to update the firmware with no success, then I got the "bright idea" to changed the Sony usb cable with the one provided with the T10 box. And to my surprise, now it works like a charm, I can upload / download music to it, I can brows it like a removable device, etc.
Now I wonder: all this trouble could be generated by the usb connection cable. And if yes, then why? Because I know that all usb devices have to correspond to some ISO standards so this kind of problems can be avoyded.
Further more, does anyone else had the same problem ?

PS: I`m sorry for my bad english. I hope the post above it mostly readable
PPS: And sorry for the lenght of it

I don't know, but possibly the cable is damaged? Also, was it a USB 2.0 HighSpeed cable? Not a 2.0 FullSpeed cable, or a 1.1 or 1.0 cable I hope?

Sounds like exactly what BongMan mentioned, damaged cable or cable was not 2.0 HighSpeed. Great you solved the problem yourself by just switching to the included cable!

But now I wonder about some of the T10 reviews on other sites, some talk about the same problems you had. I wonder if they were using just any old USB cable instead the included 2.0 HighSpeed cable?

By the way, your English is fine! Your post was perfectly understandable and explained each problem and the simple solution you found.

Well, the Sony USB cable is certely not damaged. I`ve used it to connect several devices (my Sony DSC digitalcam, my N-Gage, another nokia phone, etc), and all worked fine.
After taking a carefull look at both usb cables, I`ve noticed that the one provided with the iRiver box it`s a bit longer that the standard one (notice the black plastic between the metal connector and the grey plastic where the usb sign it`s graved), thus ensuring that the connection it`s properly made, because the rubber that protects the usb mother connecton from the Iriver kinda limits the connection.
I`ll post some pictures with bouth usb cables as soon as I get back home.
