Cool T60

Nice unit - do you figure we'll be able to get one by Xmas (in the UK that is)?? At least they found somewhere smarter to put the 'phone jack than the T10, where it is just plumb obnoxious.

Now what about the tech specs? Is it limited to 700 tracks?? Won't play Q=-1 .ogg files?? Won't play any sort of industry standard play lists?? Takes 2 minutes to power on (because it rescans the music files EVERY TIME)?? Runs on internal battery even when hooked to USB??

Or just possibly iRiver actualy read user feedback. No wait, what am I smoking here ..

Oh lord the battery door has a LATCH. That'll go even faster than the iFP-100 flip door did. The joystick's back too, what was wrong with the T10 directional pad?

I'd much rather get the 4GB iFP-700...

Not a thing, and it's far less likely to break than the joysticks on older players. I have read here and elsewhere that a few users with very large hands had some problems with T10's directional wheel but surely the majority of customers don't have King Kong hands with bratwursts for fingers. There were many more complaints about broken joysticks when the older players were current.

Bad idea on the latched battery door as well. T10's battery door is so well designed, you would have to actually try to break it. So now they bring back a latch?!?

I really like iRiver's products with their great sound quality and feature set, but somewhat less fond of the company itself. They inexplicably seem to go backwards at times.

I like them, they look really good.
I've heard people b*tchin about it saying it looks to much like a toblerone bar.
Choclate DAP.

Thanks for the pic.

I resemble that remark .. and they also suck when it comes to end user support (I'm still waiting for a reply to a support email from 2.5 years ago about an IFP899 (?) - luckily Amazon long since refunded it). Of course nobody else is much better.

And why does everyone pull exisiting products long before you can get a replacement? (e.g. T10 is gone here in UK, Cowon has also pulled plug on G3, etc. etc.). I guess I'm amazed Cowon at least still sell X5, whereas equivalent iRiver HDD DAP is now history.

advancedmp3players.c o.uk are telling me (in their forum) they expect to have the T50 in about 7-10 days time.

They didn't guess when they might have it working (i.e. debugged firmware etc.).

This is, I assume the 1Gb model .. the 1,2,4 Gb T60, or whatever it is called, still seems to be vapourware all around the world.

warehouse123 has the 1gb T50 (black and white) and 2gb T60 (black) for sale. The interesting thing is that the 2gb T60 is cheaper than the 1gb T50. I've also seen the 1gb T50 on ebay. I'd like to pick one up but I'm waiting for the larger 4gb capacity.

Price difference is not as surprising when you consider that T50 runs on AA battery while T60 runs on AAA. Players running on AAA are smaller but get far less battery life than AA players.

T50/T60 pricing is following the trend of the T10/T30 players. T10 players were always more expensive than T30 players, even in regions that got the full-featured T30 that also had FM radio.

So, unlike the T30, no line-in recording. Just that lonely headphone jack and the voice mic. And the increased capacity would have made line-in recording at high bitrates quite a useful feature...

In my opinion what would have worth changing a line of players would have been a better version of T10.

* straight shape
* a little bit whider but not as thick
* better placed phones jack
* a less gourmand LCD (I prefer monochrome or grayscaled LCDs)

And for those who would give a few extra listening hours for less weight in their pockets a AAA powered version.

Extra: a [partially] metal chasis.

I have T10 and T30, and you've pretty much just described the T30:

- straight shape
- not wider, actually very slightly thinner when viewed head-on
- not as thick in depth as T10, also lighter weight
- headphone jack on top (along with line-in jack and USB)
- same size screen but monochrome LCD

It doesn't have the click wheel of T10 but the 6 side buttons on T30 are very easy to figure out without even looking at the manual. It's AAA powered but 24 hours rated time is very good for a player running on AAA.

No metal body but still surprisingly tough for such a small and feather light player. Mine once fell hard on concrete a few months ago, thanks to one of my dogs. He jumped up and his paws snagged the headphone cord, the player and headphones sailed into the air and landed on a concrete patio.

I thought for sure the T30 would be broken, but no. Picked it up and it was still playing! No cracks, no dings, not even a single scratch. No, I didn't get angry with the dog -- he's the dumb one. My other dog, a female, is much smarter and calmer. I should have stopped to put the player away before putting the male dog outside. But no harm done, the T30 survived with no damage at all and everything on it still works great. Amazing!

By the way, I don't agree with you that T30's monochrome screen is better than the T10's color screen. The color screen on T10 looks better, is easier on the eyes, and unlike some color screen players the battery life is still excellent on T10 despite it's color screen.

The 4GB model is available in the UK (the T60, AAA cells). The AA model only seems to go to 1GB .. using an older CPU chip I think, which is a pity. Still waiting for a user review, and some details of what dumb limits they have built in (in terms of files/folders) this time around.

I really would prefer AA, since that's what I carry around for the GPS, cameras, etc.
