You copy the T10.HEX (UMS) or T10_MTP.HEX (MTP) file into the root directory of the T10 device. Make sure the transfer finishes, and unmount the volume (if UMS) before unplugging the USB cable. The T10 should then reboot in and say "Upgrading Firmware", and the new version should show up under Settings-Advanced-Sysinfo, or on the T10 boot screen.
If you want UMS, avoid the 1.76 release. The "UMS" file firmware will actually convert the T10 to a MTP device! I've posted more on another thread. I use gphoto2 to talk to it when it's in MTP mode. For UMS, it's just recognized and automounted. And there's a bug in recent Fedora Core (Bugzilla https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=190464) that prevents the libusb from seeing the device. I end up using a Knoppix LiveCD to talk to it. If you need more help, some details about your player (size, FM/noFM, currently UMS or MTP, want UMS or MTP, ... Linux distro). I've got some recent experience - just reflashed back and forth 6 times before settling on v1.75 UMS firmware. Hope this helps |

orthoB - thanks for that explanation. As a Linux + Windows user it makes good sense
I have both a 1Gig T30pure (no FM radio) and a 2Gig T30 (with FM radio) and neither are recognised (by about three Linux distros) as USB devices with valid partition tables. I cannot see an "sda1" partition. I am therefore not able to "mount" these devices into the Linux file structure. I think that iRiver have formatted the T30 UMS devices so that the FAT16 partition has been created at the *very start* of the device - (effectively sda, which is wrong !) - yes, Windows does think it is OK. I have seen more than one "flash memory drive" (also incorrectly) done the same way, by the manufacturer. I read how one person on another iRiver forum *successfully* fixed this issue by connecting his T30 to his Linux box and then using a utility (eg: cfdisk or dd ) to blow the partition table away and write a table that *is* correct ! What is your opinion of this ? The theory seems valid to my way of thinking. Do you (or anyone reading this) have any experience in this regard ? Please also send me an E-Mail if you have any info that would help. Thanks

For anyone who may be considering doing a "re-partition" exercise on their T Series player, (in this situation), but like me, are not feeling entirely confident about the procedure and *more importantly* if their iRiver player will "come back to life" aftewards - have a look at this thread
<http://www.misticriver.net/showthread.php?t=528 70> - where I detailed a SAFE method for using Linux to manage files on a UMS player. PS: - perhaps I should write this all up, a little more succinctly, as a "PLAYER FAQ" ... ?
