Battery issues
I registered here just now to try to find the solution to my problems ...
I have a 1 gig T10, and ever since the 1.70 firmware upgrade, my IRiver has been eating batteries like crazy. It's almost like the power doesn't actually turn off, and the battery continues to be drained even when the unit is off and locked. This is REALLY frustrating. I put in a brand new battery yesterday, didn't even use my unit and today I discovered that it's three-fourths drained. And yes, it was off. I'm not stupid. And here's the other problem: sometimes, the unit won't turn on. I can press the power button until the cows come home, and it won't turn on. I have to open the battery case and close it and then it will turn on. Up until these problems surfaced (which happened at the 1.70 firmware upgrade, grrr....) this was the best MP3 player I'd ever owned. Now, it's mostly a source of aggravation.

I posted for that....awhile back.
Do a search of all 'Sesquash' posts and you will come across a very detailed explanation AND fix of what is happening inside your battery compartment, and how to permanently fix the 'does not come on' problem.
There is nothing wrong with your T10, but you have to take off the varnish coating that was applied to the brass connectors inside the battery compartment. My reply to someone gives the full step-by-step. Hope this helps. As for your power drainage...will think on that one... Sesquash

I found the battery oxidization solution you posted. Thanks for that.
I have noticed a lot of posts about people complaining of quick battery draining. When I got the T10 last year, I was thrilled with the fact I could change the battery ever two months. I'm convinced the 1.70 firmware did something to screw up its power consumption when the unit is off.

Go to your settings and...in the DISPLAY section: Set your screen back light to 5 seconds, Turn OFF the screen saver function. You do NOT need it. Those two things alone will enhance your battery longevity. You can download 1.72 MTP from off of the net here: http://nyaochi.sakura.ne.jp/iriverupdate/ Open up a view of your T10 via Windows. DELETE EVERYTHING, all folders etc.... when that is done, place the 1.72 (dat) files onto your root which is now empty...and then disconnect from your USB cable. Have a FRESH BATTERY in before you start ! Do NOT touch or turn off your T10 until IT GOES BLANK OF ITSELF. Then if it does not come on automatically, NOW you can turn it on via the on/off switch. Congrats, you now have 1.72 MTP with excellent battery/power management where the auto-installer program did not allow you that version of the upgrade. OK, this is weird, my T10 is still saying that I have the 1.70 firmware installed.
What exactly is the 1.72 fix in terms of files? The zip file I got had a firmware.inf and a T10N_MPT.HEX, both of which are still sitting in my root directory. I deleted everything from the root, put those files in the root, and let the unit reboot itself. But it didn't seem to "take" as an install .... ?

If that is the case, then you probably can only go with what the AUTO-UPDATE shows as the latest and greatest. OK, thanks. Strangely enough, the battery drain problem seems to have vanished, despite the 1.72 not being recognized. I might leave well enough alone at this point seeing as things appear to be back to normal.

Well, after putting in a fresh battery last weekend, using my T10 for about an hour on Saturday and an hour on Monday, and not at all through the week, I turned it on this morning to find the battery meter was registering only one bar, meaning my battery was almost dead.
So I guess my quick-draining battery issues haven't gone away after all. Insert swear words here.

Jenkinson, are you using rechargables? Those will lose charge even if not used. But losing that much in only a week means a rechargeable is nearing the end of it's charge/discharge/recharge life cycle and needs to be replaced.
Only other thing is try using the Hold switch, in case the T10 is accidently being switched on while stored in a pocket, back pack or bag.

They're not rechargables and I use the hold switch all the time.
Let me say it again to be totally clear: I lost almost all my battery power in less than a week based on 2 hours of usage and THE UNIT OTHERWISE TURNED OFF SITTING ON A SHELF!

Dude, no need to take it out on people. We're not company tech support, everybody here are other T-series users trying to help you. Sounds like your unit is defective or broken, get an RMA from iRiver.

Jenkinson1: Hey man...atlast i found somebody who has the same problem as me...i upgrade my firmware to 1.76...and here the problems come...
before this...1 battery can be use for about 2 weeks...but after i upgrade my t10 to version 1.76...i insert a new battery,it really shocks me...the battery drained so much...the battery bar went down to just 2 bars after listen to music for less than 2 hours...then i keep on listening to fm radio...and also some mp3 songs...after about less than 10 hours of usage...now...there' s only 1 more bar left!!! i really regret i upgrade to firmware 1.76...but as i know...there's no way to downgrade the firmware...  oh...yes...recording do consume more battery than normal listening...

i got a AU-HK v1.70 UMS firmware. i alway back up by copy and paste the firmware file before unplug the usb cable for firmware upgrade. i using a T10 256mb. think this v1.70 can be use for T10 256mb, 512mb and 1GB but NOT the 2GB version. those interested can download from the link and try downgrade but do it at your own risk, i just trying to help. http://www.iriver.com/html/support/d...pSearchString= or you want go down to lower version like v1.51. you can find the firmware at iriver.com.

...a have this problem after 3 looooong days reached ... i have this problem after upgrade fw ... no contacts or somenthink other ... problem was in incorrect fw functionality after upgrade ... try so: connect with usb to pc, delete all content of T10, format (FAT) in windows-computer management-disk management and after format copy t10.hex (1.76) to T10 ...wait, then after upgrade fw and reboot is all o.k. ....no problem with turning on, no problem with sound or skipping ...

Problem Resolved!
I found out it was nothing to do with the mp3 player itself...
it was my battery problem... i tried to downgrade the firmware last time... but i failed to do so...and i had difficulty to turn the player on... but luckily every now gone back to normal...
