From what I understand from reading a bunch of posts in order reflash your player you do not actually need the iriver firmware update software since all this does in effect is copy the firmware to the device. Once the data cable is unplugged, the player restarts and theortically finds the firmware and applies it.
I read somewhere earlier that in order to get T10 to reflash you need 2 hex files copied to the root of the player (The data folder in the case of MTP players). Now I cant find where I originally read this. Maybe it was just my imagination. Does anyone know for sure whether the above is correct (that you do indeed need 2 files). I'm thinking it may be possible to check by copying a firmware to the player using the official tool (which does not work with v1.71 firmware) and then browsing to the root and seeing what files were copied over before unplugging the player. The maddening thing is I have a nice UMS nonpure v1.70 firmware (Which just contains a single hex file), but copying it to the root does nothing after unplugging. The device just restarts. I've tried formating the device, loading default settings, all for nought. I'm kinda wondering if iRiver screwed up and v1.71 wont flash due to a bug in the firmware not recognising when a valid firmware file is present on the player. I certainly hope not. They certainly dont seem to be making much noise. Maybe they dont want to recall all those v1.71 devices. Last edited by Nine______ : November 3rd, 2006 at 02:06 PM. |

in T series there was always only one file containing firmware... ".hex" file
there were also restrictions to which firmware will load: - file name - header containing version (pure/non-pure, EU/US/asian, T10/T20/T30) becuse of that, you cannot (one year before) change MTP firmware to UMS... so we made "unofficial MTP to UMS" now it is officially possible: http://www.iriver.com/mtp
