T10 (EU) MTP -> UMS problems

The model is T10 EU edition, orange yellow, 1 GB, no FM tuner.

Okay, so I first tried just upgrading to 1.70 MTP via the Firmware Updater (version 1.50) program, worked. Then I tried changing from MTP to UMS via the same program, seemed to work fine, the device reset BUT it did not change from MTP to UMS, didn't even delete the data.

So I searched the forums to find this possible solution:

Quote:
yes. That works khron. THANKS.
Step by step.
->Settings->advanced->format
->Settings->advanced->load default

-use FirmwareUpdater to revert restore Firmware. Dont click on MTP<-> in this step.
-use FirmwareUpdater to change to UMS firmware
So I did it, step by step (though, however, I don't have the 'Revert Restore' option, I have the Recovery [format your device and reinstall the hardware] button and the Reinstall [reinstall the current firmware] button, tried both of them) and everything worked untill I again tried changing it to UMS... and now there are two possible ways this goes for me:

1.) again I click on the MTP->UMS button, say Next, the download starts... *HOWEVER*, when it reaches 100% an error message pops up (it didn't pop up the first time I did this, only after I did the format/load default bit), saying: "could not find the inf file for the upgrade" or something like that

2.) -pretty much the same thing I got the first time -I just don't know whether the data is deleted, cause there's no data to delete- , without doing the format/load default routine) the download DOES finish, I wait till the 'transferring' finishes on the device screen, disconnedt, it says 'Firmware Upgrade, do not touch', it shuts down, I turn it on again, it says "Firmware Upgrade..." again... it goes off again after some time, then I switch it on again to find it... still MTP.

I got two 1.)-s in a row about 5 mins ago, two 2.)-s just now. But... the end result is always the same -

Tried again, now I got yet *another* different procedure, the download finished, I disconnected the device HOWEVER it did not reset itself at all. Tried plugging it in again, still MTP.

Tried again. 1.) and I can't upgrade.

The only file that's left on the device after all this is T10MPURE.HEX, if that's of any help.

Help. Please.

*bump*

And another question, I see 1.71, 1.72 and 1.73 firmware versions on this site - http://nyaochi.sakura.ne.jp/iriverupdate/, however when I run the updater it says that my 1.70 is up to date...

I also tried installing a newer version manually, but the manual states that I should copy the .hex file into the player's root directory, however I'm not able to do that... I can just copy it to the Data directory... root and Media are off limits it seems...

Thanks in advance.

It took two tries for my MTP(US) T10 1GB to convert to UMS using updater program. Just did it tonight.

Bother number one, it doesn't let me know when it's is done updating after I disconnect, I think the screen times out while it's still updating, so give it lots of time, I gave it 5 minutes the first time. I hit the on button and like you got the updating screen.

Second time I tried the update program to convert MTP > UMS, I gave it twelve minutes. Worked. When I powered on, no updating screen and it was UMS!

About versions 1.71, 1.72, 1.73. According to wiki they are not offical yet.

As to copying .hex file to root directory, it would be no problem if your T10 were a UMS drive, but as MTP device it would not be possible. If you have a Data directory, you have MTP firmware! UMS does not have a Data or a Media directory. I had to make a Music directory else all would end up in the root.

It shouldn't be this hard, but it is.

I have since used iriver plus versions 2 and 3. I have mixed feelings about them too. But still better than WMP as to file manipulation. Iriver plus is useless for transfering images to T10. Doesn't even see them.

Nice that I can still load and play WMA(DRM) files! Requires iriver plus to install the licenses.

And now bmp images can go into any folder, so I can add cover art to album folders and bring up the image and while still listening to music. Maybe that was true with MTP but I think had to put them in the Data directory, same as ogg files.

Good Luck,
Fathom
