I can DRAG and DROP with my MTP PLAYER!!

I recently got a iriver T10 2GB MTP (upgrade from my 1GB version), 1.71 firmware, bought it from Best buy here In Toronto.
I got tired and pissed off using WMP to transfer songs, so I was just exploring with the player. I Made a folder on the player, it was just called "new folder", and I started dragging songs to it, I checked if it would play. And surely enough it did play when I disconnected my player from the computer.

Is this a new discovery? Because I am very happy that I found out that I can just drag songs onto my player, i thought WMP was the only way before for an MTP player.

Nope.. i could do that also.
My question is:

How to copy things from the player to the computer?
For example, something that i recorded (during a class or something)...

OO, then why do people rick bricking their player to convert to UMS when you can do the same with an MTP.
You can get your recordings from your player by...
1. Get on the player via My Computer
2. Click on VOICE folder.
3. Your file should be there, drag it to your desktop.

Thats the problem.
When i had my t10 1gb MTP, i could not do that..
Dont know why.. but all i could do is transfer files from the computer to the player (could not modify anything inside the player also, only drap, drop, delete), but could not transfer anything from the player to the computer.

And the reason why people convert from MTP to UMS, is simple.
Not everyone uses Windows, and the player with MTP firmware ONLY works with windows+windows media player.
So that means you can't use yoru player anywhere as some kind of flash drive...
Also, even using windows, having windows media player and everything working fine, not everyone likes to be linked to any kind of software to use a device.. I hate having to use any kind of software to manage mp3 players. (iPod+iTunes -.-')

If you want to have folders called something other than "New Folder", simply create them on your desktop, and then drag to the player.

FYI -- I've had no problem whatsoever copying files from the "VOICE" folder to my desktop.

I've got a 2GB T10 US model using 1.71 MTP FW.

See my post elsewhere. I've had no problem with file sizes up to 10 MB from my T30 with windows explorer, but no luck with large files - 650 MB. Will convert this weekend and see what the UMS system does with such files.

Well.. if its an other version of Windows, i think you might be able to install Windows Media Player and still use the t10.

But if its Linux for example, i think you wont be able to use your player..

in order to drag and drop with MTP, you must have WMP10 installed on the computer.

UMS drag and drop requires no software and has a faster transfer rate than MTP drag and drop

Did you try copy/paste instead of drag/drop to get recordings off an MTP player? Sometimes one works but not the other. I had no problems with either.

Version 1.70 NON-pure (for a T10 with radio).

Those having problems seem to using the pure firmware versions (for T10 with no radio.) Another misticriver poster, xnr, has posted about certain problems with the pure firmware as opposed to the non-pure. The posts were specifically about non-working playlists with the pure firmware, but possibly there are other problems as well. Non-pure firmware will work with pure T10 midels, you will just a radio menu that doesn't work. But everything else will work fine.

WMP version 10

1.70 is firmware, not WMP

Right, it ("it" meaning drag/drop or copy/paste) will (or should) work on any computer with either WMP10 or 11 installed, even with an MTP player. ("Installed" but you don't have to use it.) But problems (like non-working playlists and perhaps others) seem to be specific to the firmware version (non-pure vs. pure), not which version of WMP. (Unless it's a lower version than WMP 10 installed on the computer, but then you wouldn't have the necessary drivers, which only come with WMP 10 and above.)

Guess I shoulda explained that fully, but figured most everyone would realize the difference. It's all there now, should there be any confusion remaining.
