Weird blots or splashes on the display...

I've bought a new IRiver T10 recently (not REFURBISHED) and while testing this nice piece of equipment I discovered some kind of blots on display. However, they are only visible while the player is switched off. When the player is working (and the display is lighted) I don't see those spots. They are visible in a light of a lightbulb and look like some blacker places of the display. Is that a normal situtation for this player's display ?? Has anybody encountered such "darker places on the display" ??

The display is made up of layers, can you see which layer it could be on?
  • on the protective screen
  • Under the protective screen and on the display
  • Between the display's layers one of which is a polarizing layer
  • The LCD itself where the display actually occurs, which is the bottom layer.
I guess this will be hard to tell, and my discription is not great.
Sometimes the LCD itself has an oily look to it which would show up as blotches.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it affected the display when switched on.

I think it's "Under the protective screen and on the LCD", but that is just a guesstimate . But seriously is it alarming ?? I have also noticed that those blots are darkish under an artificial lighting (a lightbulb), but they are in a different form and bright when I notice them in broad daylight.

Is that normal for such LCD ? It is all visible only when the player is turned off or not backlit.

If it's under the protective screen and on the display, it could simply be a fingerprint (doubtfull) which could have happened during manufacture.

My TFT in front of me at work now, has blotches because they are a pain to clean and and the Dell monitors always seems to show a smear.

I can only see this with the display off and its pretty much like your iRiver display but without the protective screen.

It's the Anti Glare properties which seem to show the smear and its the same with my camera.

Thx for reply

Now I'm assured that everything is allright I was just curious, becasue this kind of a display is quite new to me... in a way that it is much different than the one found in mobile phones for example - in T10 it is blacker and every smear would be less visible, while in a mobile phone the screen looks different and if there was any blotch it would be strongly visible becasue such lcd is much lighter (when not powered on) than in my T10.

Well, without seeing the screen its difficult to say what it could be.

But the darker the screen and less reflective or 'Matt' black is usually an Anti Glare film.
Useless with a shiny protective screen

It may well be something entirely different. I've not seen the model you have so I'm guessing.

Ok, I only wanted to know whether that phenomenon is dangerous to my IRiver... but I think that as long as it doesn't affect my backlit display it is just a minor case.
