Windows 2000 and the T30 just cost me an entire afternoon!

I downloaded the MS Windows MTP pack and installed it. It needlessly loads a huge program on the computer when all you really need is the Redist subdirectory with the MTP9x-2k.exe program.

After realizing that Win 2000 Pro SP4 would still not recognize the T30, I followed this thread ---> U10 and W2k
and KHRoN's instructions for editing the wpdmtp_iriver.inf file. Win 2k still would not recognize that file, although when I decided to load the T30 from a list of devices, Win 2k assigned a system driver and voila - the T30 was installed.
WMP 9 recognized it and I was able to copy a few files, although WMP 9 froze after the copy.

The one problem is that the Iriver Firmware updater still won't recognize the unit on my Win 2k computer.

Before I go over to a friend's place and do the firmware upgrade and convert it to a UMS unit on an XP, is there anything else I can try so that the Iriver Firmware Update might recognize it using Windows 2k? It's puzzling that it doesn't considering it's listed in my system devices.

By the way, I'm using an excellent little program called "Total Uninstall" which can be found at http://www.martau.com (there's also an old freeware version floating around the web). This keeps track of all installations including registry strings by scanning the registry pre-and post install. I'm going to uninstall the various MS MTP programs. What a waste - unless someone can tell me that I can install WMP 10 with those drivers installed.
