Is there a UMS firmware upgrade for the T10 2GB model?
I just got my iRiver t10 2GB, upgrading from the 1GB model I bought a month ago. The 2GB model came with firmware version 1.71 MTP. I wanted to convert it to UMS. I tried to use the firmware upgrader at iriveramerica.com, but it doesn't support the 2GB model. This item was just recently released here, so I can see why it isn't supported yet.
Did iRiver state when firmware 1.71 UMS would be released? With the MTP firmware, I copied and pasted my music files from my hard drive to the T10's "Music" folder. I read that with MTP firmware, Windows Media Player was required to transfer files. With the 1GB model, I never bothered with MTP and just went straight to UMS. Is copying and pasting with MTP prefectly fine? With the MTP firmware, there's no icon in the system tray to "safely remove the device." So after I'm done transferring files onto my T10, I just unplug the USB cable from the T10. Is doing all that okay when using the MTP firmware? When I used the UMS firmware, I always "safely removed the device" before unplugging the USB cable, just to be on the safe side. Edit: I think i found the answer to my MTP and unplugging it without "safely removing it. I searched the forums using the words "mtp safely remove," and I found two threads that answered that question: can't safely remove hardware with my T30 T30 MTP newbie So apparantly, it's okay to unplug an MTP device anytime you want, even while transferring data (not that I would unplug it during that time.) With a UMS device, you have to "safely remove" it before unplugging it. Last edited by dave191 : August 14th, 2006 at 09:49 PM. Reason: Found answer to one of my questions. |
