Playlists/Quicklist on T10

Hi all,

I started writing a program that converts m3u playlists to iriver pla lists. The
problem is, I seem to be too stupid to use playlists at all. I created a quicklist
on the player, with two songs, works fine. I then select the iQuickList.pla
which takes me "inside" the playlist and shows me my two songs. Then I select the first song and it starts playing. Fine again. But when I click on
>>| (next song), it moves to the next song in the folder, not to the next song
in the playlist. Now strangely enough, once or twice during testing, it did
move inside the list only. Am I missing something here?

I also can't create playlists with iriverplus3, it does not recognise my T10.
And I can't download iriverplus2, since I'm not allowed to register the player,
"has already been registered". Not by me. Grr. Anybody has a link?

So, could someone please send me a playlist that is not a quicklist and that
works? I'd like to see how the format differs from the quicklist pla.

Also, does anybody have a pdf version of the manual for T10 UMS? I can only
find the MTP version on the iriver websites, and since my player came with
the MTP firmware, that's also what the printed manual is about.

Yeah !! Finally, someone talks about it !!

There's a huge bug, this one, very annoying, in PURE firmwares... I already noticed it before, but then I installed Non Pure firmware because of the mtp->ums non official conversion.

Recently, I switched back to Pure firmware (thx to Itanium) keeping ums. BUT this problem starts again. It's really boring (I'm using playlists a lot because of a program I made which sort music by artist/album/genre), so I'm wondering about switching to non pure firmware again...

Sometimes playlist is working, sometimes it's not. It just plays the file in its folder. iQuickList or whatever.

@KHRoN: Thanks for the links, I'll try that. But I found that the Firmware
updater also doesn't recognise my T10, so don't have much hope. Not too
bad, since all I want it for is creating a playlist.

@xnr: Ah, so it's not just me being stupid. Putting on non-pure firmware
requires the trick of swapping the headers, right? I'm a bit worried since
I messed up the player once already with wrong firmware, but it would be
worth a try if it makes playlists work. Hey, you already have a program
that creates pla lists? I think the world is waiting for something like this!
Since you have them, can you maybe PM/mail me a non-quick playlist?

Yeah, but, my program is only running under *nix systems... I already talked about it on this forum (this thread) but nobody seemed to be interesting because of the Windows incompatibility.

Of course I can... But, you have to know, regular playlists files (.pla) are 100% similar to iQuickLists.

I meanwhile managed to find another computer where iriver plus does
recognise the T10, so I could create my own playlist. They are not 100%
identical: the quicklist explicitely says quicklist in the header. But the
important bits (that is, everything else) are the same.

Yes, I can see how the majority of people would not go for a *nix program.
Pity, since there is so much good software there. Same with the python
script to convert playlist, it won't reach the masses, that's why I try to
get a Windows tool with a nice GUI done. Seems I have to fly blind, since
I can't really test the results.

Damn, you're right ! I forgot the header thing... There's something else written in my playlists : "iriver UMS PLA".
But, even if your device does not play the playlist correctly, if you can open it and navigate inside, that enough ! Or maybe I've just misunderstood what you said...

Anyway, I'm going to send you one of my playlists, hoping that could help.

Thanks, that's just the confirmation I wanted. So I'm going to create
playlists that I can browse. Maybe one day I can even play them when
a new pure firmware comes out...

just for confirmation: i, too can reproduce the playlist problem mentioned in the first post of this thread. i can reproduce it either with iriverplus on windows or with orthoB's python scripts on any unix derivate.
i have just mailed a "bug-report" to iriver (no answer yet of course).

@xnr: of course there ARE people interested in non-windows scripts/programs for the t10, don't worry

i have just called the (german) iriver support and they confirmed this bug (i talked to mr. brack). problem will be fixed with forthcoming firmware update 1.71 or 1.72 which is due to september 2006.
