iriver firmware updater doesn't work

Hi;

When I try to update my T30 UMS firmware from 1.70 to 1.71 by using iriver firmware updater,I'm getting this error message:

"cannot find update information in the INF file"

pressing OK then nothing happens and also firmware updater doesn't recognize my T30. When I try to update through iriver plus, it says my T30 has the latest firmware.
How can I solve this "cannot find update information in the INF file" problem?

Also I wanted to install the firmware manually which I downloaded from http://www.mtp-ums.net/ ,but the "Data" folder is disappered. I created a "Data" folder manually and copy the firmware in it, but nothing happened. There was a xml file in the T30i but now it is lost. is this the reason for the eroor when connecting from firmware updater.

The data folder doesn't exist in the UMS version. The proper place to put the file is in the root directory. In fact, as i understand it, the MTP version's "data" directory was just a representation of the root directory.

And... i'm having the same problem with the INF file issue. I don't get the option to crossgrade to MTP, so if someone has an answer for this, i'd appreciate it.

cengizkhan,

- Did you convert your T30 from MTP to UMS in the non-official way?
- There is a hidden file named T30_PURE.SYS in the root of the T30, is the 'language' parameter set to EST? (just open this file in notepad)
- There is a line "tuner = NO" in this file?

If the answer is yes to all three questions you are suffering the same problem I was experiencing.

I was happy when I converted my T30 to UMS but I did not like the fact that Iriver plus 2 and the Firmware Updater never found a new firmware. Something was not functioning as it should. The new firmware updater did not work at all, complaining about the inf file and the mtp<->ums button is missing.
After some research it shows that the firmware updater is right, there is no firmware listed in the inf file for an EST firmware without radio. I don't know if iriver forgot to add it or that the 'frankenstein firmware' is mimicking a non-existing player.
The solution is simple, I have dowloaded the new firmware with English language and now the firmware updater seems to work fine, it now shows the mtp<->ums button, the message about the inf-file is gone and it does not complain about not having internet access any more.

You can get the firmware here, unzip the hex file and place it in the root of the T30.

My new T30 came with firmware 1.60P and I wanted to upgrade the firmware to 1.71 UMS. It took me 3 days to get the job done.

The firmware updater didn't work, it didn't recognize the T30. There was no problem with Windows XP (Home Edition, SP2), it recognized the player right away. I tried a manual update, that too didn't work.

Long story short. You must be using WMP 10, not 11. Apparently, the updater gets its drivers from WMP10 and 11 doesn't support them.

Rolling back to WMP 10 wasn't as easy as it sounds. You must roll back 3 different items in order for WMP 10 to work properly, otherwise it crashes on startup. Those items are WMP11, Win Media Format 11 Runtime and, MSoft User-Mode Driver Framemaker Feature Pack 1.0

All in all it took 3 days, numerous e-mails and 3 phone call to iriver support before I got a tech by the name of Chelsea who steered me in the right direction.

Hope this helps.

The root is the topmost "folder".

The file is hidden. Windows Explorer does not show hidden files by default. You have to change the options in Windows Explorer to show hidden files.

Please help. I asked iRiver Support for help because although I did a firmware update to my 512-MB T30 with no trouble, my 1-GB T30 simply won't update.

I downloaded the right file and followed their instructions to reformat, update, and reinstall my music files. The result? All my files transferred but all my playlists are gone! The only way to find a song is to go through them all individually (I have 230 songs on this one).

This is a disaster - an iRiver-created disaster. I am worse off than before I tried to update. Does anyone have any suggestions? (I'm using WMP 10, too, not 11.) Thanks.

Never mind!

I manually deleted all the files and then re-synced. My playlists are back. Phew.

But that was a close call, so I think I'm done trying to update the firmware.

UMS Vs MPT

Hi All,

Whats the advantage of switching to UMS. I just upgraded my T30 to 1.71 and wasn't sure I should use UMS . They say I wouldn't be able to connect ot a music service anymore is this true?

Thanks,

Lite
