Anyone managed to use Audible on T30 (UMS)?

I cannot make it work.

I am running the 1.70 version of the UMS firmware on my T30 (purchased in Asia).

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, as you can see from the previous post, all you have to do is change your name to something less offensive.

If that doesn't work, then there could be a number of things: being purchased in Asia, being UMS, drivers, etc...

What is the problem exactly? Are you able to transfer the Audible file to the player successfully via "Audible Manager"? Does "Audible Manager" recognize your player? Does your computer even recognize your player?

I have a feeling it's because your player is UMS. I have a 1GB T10 MTP and Audible works fine. Any more specific issues that you can describe could help us help you better.

Audible Manager is not able to find my player, and hence I cannot transfer files.

In Audible Manager, The device memory status says:
Used Memory: 0 MB
Free Memory: 0 MB

If I right click on a book and choose "Add to T30" I get the error message "device is full"

Pressing "Refresh device" does not help.

I recently re-installed Audible Manager, running version 5.0.0.5

The player is a 1 GB T30 (UMS, bought in Asia) with version 1.7 of the firmware.

My best guess is that because your device is UMS, that is why you are having trouble. My understanding is that UMS doesn't support the copy protection and DRM like MTP does, thus making it unlikely a subscription-based service like Audible would support it.

On the other hand, when I initially plug in my T10, I notice that there is a significant delay before the Audible Manager recognizes it. It's not instant, and during that time it shows the same thing that you describe. After a short while it does recognize it and then I can proceed with syncing.

Waiting long enough may or may not be your issue, but is a possibility. You don't mention any other issues related to other files. What about MP3s, OGG, etc...? Can you transfer those?

One other option to try would be to copy the Audible file directly to the \Service\AUDIBLE\ folder.

Hi Matt,

thanks for your answer!

I have left may player alone for more than 30 minutes trying to connect to Audible Manager. So I don't think that is the problem.

Copying MP3/WMA files to the player using Explorer works without problem.

I cannot find any any menus for the Audible features on my T30, and I don't have any \Service\Audible folder. Perhaps the UMS version does not support Audible at all. That would be a shame, because I really like Audible.

Yes, it sounds like Audible is not usable for a UMS device.

A lot of people will look at you funny, but if your're interested, maybe someone else around here can help with conversion to MTP from UMS. I'm not sure if it's possible though, or worth the hassle.

Best of luck,

Unhappy Audible on T30 purchased in Asia

Guys...

Same problem here. Bought my T30 in HKG, its 512meg version Currently UMS. I have the same issues when I plug into Audible manager. It does not recognize the device and says that I need to remove programs to free up more space (0 megs used, 0 megs free). I have tried everything and am about to give up. Did anyone come up with a solution to this one?

Thanks,
Jarrod

Lightbulb Making Progress

Ok...

I used one of your ideas and added "Service\Audible \" folder, then manually entered one of my .aa files. Turned on T30 and looked for the file. I can find, but it does not play.

I went into the T30.sys file and changed the "space = 512" to "space = 1000". Then went into Audible Manager and it recognized the T30 (ie, no more 0 space used, 0 space free)!!! It does recognize that there is 97 megs used and 400 free.

When I go back into the .sys file it says "space = 512" again. I guess that Audible Manager rewrites the file???

So, at least AM sees that the file in on the T30. That tells me that the problem has something to do with the firmware upgrade on the T30. Perhaps since we bought the unit in Asia (HKG for me), then we need a different firmware.

For your reference, my firmware is 1.71 UMS.

Any more ideas???

Jarrod

"Audible" should be the last menu choice under Settings->Advanced on a T30, right after "Load Default" and "Format". If you don't have that menu choice then the firmware you're using is not Audible-ready and likely won't work with Audible Manager or it's proprietary .aa files.

Audible.com adds their code to manufacturer's existing firmware, it's possible they only added it to the MTP firmware and that's why you're getting the 'upgrade' notice.
