Hi,
The new T30 1.7 Firmware has a fairly serious bug in it. I've only tested with the UMS/EST PURE version of the firmware, but I'm guessing the problem occurs in all the releases of 1.7. Can someone confirm this? The problem is as follows: IF the repeat mode is set to shuffle-repeat-folder AND there is only one track in the folder you are trying to play, THEN the T30 will crash when the track ends, or if you try to use the skip or search features. The crash process starts with repeated stuttering followed by a sharp hiss. The player will then reboot. It will continue to repeatedly reboot unless the hold button is engaged - if this is the case then the player will reboot once more and switch off. After the hold-button procedure, the player will now function again, but it's still liable to crash again if the conditions needed to trigger the problem happen again. I have also tested the 1.5 and 1.6 versions of the same firmware - the problem doesn't exist in these versions. It's only an issue in 1.7. I have informed the New Zealand iRiver support line about this issue, but would encourage others to do the same - the more complaing that iRiver get the more likely they are to fix it quickly. Can someone test the MTP version of 1.7? I don't have an MTP player to do this with. It would also be good to know if this is also an issue with the T10/T20 players too. Cheers, Bletch |

I tried to tell iRiver UK about this but their online support form resulted in an error report about the address not being there anymore being sent by iRiver to my email.
Anyone know where I can email to report the bug with the support form so that I can report the bug with the firmware? I hope iRiver read these forums. They'll never know about it if not. |

Yep, I can testify to the SRS in 1.70 too - works fine for me. Would be nice to know if the FW bug occurs on T10/T20 too, as I only have a T30 player. I will contact iRiver again on Monday to see if they have made any progress on fixing it - although I have my doubts.

In case anyone is curious, this bug is also present on the MTP side of the street. I have T30 with v1.71P (Pure i.e. no FM) MTP firmware. (I need to use MTP to listen to my audiobooks from audible.com. Expect MTP is also required to playback the WMA DRM "OverDrive" audio I download from the NY public library, ebooks.nypl.org).
FWIW, this bug also happens when the T30 is set to just shuffle-folder play mode. Shuffle all (A?) and shuffle-playlist seems to be OK though. I'll try to get this posted as a problem report on the www.iriveramerica.com site. Not saying anything will come of it, but it's at least worth a shot, no? -irrational john Last edited by zjohnr : June 20th, 2006 at 06:28 PM. |
