Yep, it's entirely possible to still use WMP 11 to sync files after converting to UMS. That's old news.

However, on further investigation you will also find that although files will still sync, playlists created in WMP will not. Further, the T-series players do not recognize standard .m3u playlists created in programs such as Winamp. Instead iriver players use a proprietary .pla format for playlists.

Fortunately, there is still a way to get playlists on your converted-to-UMS T-series player. But it does require a separate application to convert .m3u playlists to iriver's .pla format, an application to do just that has been generously created by another poster.

The following thread provides instructions, be sure to read the last post and follow the link there to LJ Convert:

Syncing in UMS

Be sure to read and follow all instructions at the link to LordJulius's LJ Convert program.
(You may also have to install another program in order for the LJ Convert utility to work on your computer, but full instructions are provided at the link for LJ Convert. Just read and follow carefully and you're good to go on playlists!)

Sure, if left as MTP T10 (or T30) will work great with Winamp, Media Monkey, Yahoo Music ... or any other MTP software for that matter.

The difference happens upon converting to UMS. That's when the issue of playlists not transferring happens, because iriver uses a proprietary .pla format rather than the standard .m3u format. But again, that's easily solvable with LJ Convert.

Have pure, UMS, T30 running iRiver Plus 3 music manager but I would like better playlist management. Are there any other music managers that will work with UMS T30?

I was using the T30 in MTP mode with WMP10 but some files would not sync at all so went to UMS + iRiver Plus 3 and all is well, but playlist management is cumbersome. If I have to switch back to MTP, what would be the best playlist manager?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Lou

System Files were missing...

... and using the MTP recovery tool from the American iRiver site did not help. Not one bit.

But...

I installed iRiver Plus, and used that, and it fixed my problem by converting it to UMS. And now it works flawlessy. I don't know how or why, but it replaced my bad MTP firmware with the shiny new UMS 2.53. And I couldn't be more grateful.

Hi cadiehl,
that´s right. I got a 2 GB T10 and had the same problem until my boss let me use one of his computers with windows XP in our company (haven´t got a computer at home).
Now the sound is really good - but I can´t rename files and I hate this media-player when I´m used to drag and drop.
So - where can I find a simple (!) and easy to understand prescription how to make my T10 compatible with windows2000 ? No tech-terms and insider abbreviations please!
I think I got a 1.71 firmware version but I have to look this up.
I must admit that I tried to make a firmware upgrade once but I was not able to complete. It just didn´t work in the computer (the one with XP media player ).

I store all kinds of stuff other then music on my H120. I mean can I really listen to 3000 songs?

I bought my H120 four years ago and its going strong.
iPods are already UMS but you can run any iPod 100% UMS with Rockbox. Play OGG, FLAC, GameBoy, whatever.. You can even make the Apple logo go away! Only thing iTunes does is create a proprietary iPod database designed to chain you to Apple and delete your personal freedom. This is because Apple is run by terrorists. Cheers!

I started with a T30 on MTP. When windows brought out the new Media 11 player, I couldn't download and lost files. In Feb I changed to UMS format and it has worked well for me. I'm using firmware V 1.71. The T30 has the best sound recording compared to my friend on other machines - even in a crowd.

I have T30 mtp with the original firmware cos i never wanted to encounter any possible problems when it was fine for me. with xp and wmp10 i could just dag and drop and this is what i want to do.
now i have a new laptop with vista (sp1) and i presume wmp11.
it just will not work.
i have been through several posts and it seems that to solve this prob i have to use the old pc and upgrade the firmware. does this really work?? and should i change to ums when i am perfectly happy using wmp???
are there any step by step instructions for dummies??

thanks
