How many of you think FM tuner is required in a player ?
Before buying T10, I was looking at sony network walkman, iPods etc. For me FM is a must. There's nothing like listening to you favourite song on the radio. what do you say ? sometimes when you get bored listening to the same collection, switch on the FM and enjoy.. The exciting element of uncertainity as to which song will be on air next can never be got if you are repeating/shuffling the same old collection of songs. Thats one of the reasons why I chose T10 over iPods/sony mp3s with no FM. |

I voted for the first option. One of the main reasons I purchased my H320 is because it has FM included. In my morning commute is when I listen to the radio most.

if you guys listen to radio the most, why spend 200$ or more on a mp3 player when you can get a fm device for less than a few quids.
I use my T30 to listen to the music I like and I'm happy without fm. I don't want to listen to all the talking done on radio. I suppose it could be a good bonus, but I don't want to pay extra for it ! |

I mostly just use the FM tuner when I've heard something interesting on the radio in the car and then I have to get out--I can just keep on listening.
I've also recorded a couple of things from the radio when people wouldn't have access to the radio themselves. |

when I had players with radio (iFP-599T, H140), I listened to it a very few times... and always in home, never "in motion"... O_o
no, FM radio is not necessary but it is kind of "bonus"...

I voted for the second one, an included FM tuner is a big plus but we already have too many laws. <g> Although I do listen mostly to the files I put on my T10, sometimes you need to switch over to radio.
Reasons could be to catch some news, weather/traffic reports, NPR programs, hear some new music, or just to reconnect with the rest of the world since only ever listening to your own music can be a bit isolating. It could depend on your area though. My area has some great radio stations with strong signals, including a couple college stations and independent stations that don't play the same things over and over. There's also very little interference so stations come in crystal clear and those meant to play in stereo stay in stereo. Not every area is like that though, I do travel sometimes and some destinations have rotten stations, weak signals, or interference. (A few times while travelling the stations that came in best were ones I wouldn't want to listen to, but home base couldn't be better for radio.) I also have a T30 (U.S. model with no FM tuner) and definitely do miss the radio on that one. T30's advantage is that it's much smaller and featherlight, but no radio is a bummer. |

I use my FM tuner from time to time, more as a break from my podcasts and music. And the FM tuner is great when I travel and can scan through radio stations in a new city to see if there's anything I like.
But about 90% of my listening is MP3s and music files, not the radio. |

I occasionally use the radio on my player but not so often that I couldn't live without it, or see it as a requirement when making a decision in buying a DAP.

I need the FM radio because I may go somewhere and get bored of listening to my songs, I just switch to FM, without an add-on (iPod comes to mind) or other piece of hardware,it saves some money

FM radio for MUSIC is a waste of time. However, FM radio for : Sports, news and talk show personalities is what it's all about for me. I also happen to use the 88.3 frequency as a receptor for my xm radio signal !
When I want to listen to my favorite xm channel at home, but my wife is sleeping, all I have to do is turn any radio in my house (in this case, a DAP w/radio) to 88.3 Mhz, and it is then used as a transmitter for my My-fi. Pretty slick hu ? When riding a bus in the city, or walking, it's also nice to check out what's happening on 1010 wins or perhaps catch a ballgame in the springtime, whilst sitting/laying in the grass in some park etc.. I don't see why FM radio shouldn't be included in every new DAP. |

i think it's getting insulting that the ipods don't have FM radio... i have to be honest, i don't listen to radio much (not only on my player, but at home either). but i like to be able to catch some news or a game when i'm not near a tv. an fm receiver has got to be one of the easiest pieces of hardware to mount on an mp3 player and i really don't know why it's being left out on ipods.

I was going to say that most mobile phones have FM radios these days, but then I reaised that they have mp3 players too, so I'd best not say it ....
