i have a T20 (pure), but haven't convert it to ums yet.
because i heard that the ums-versions use iriver plus 2 for synchronisation and you can only download it with the serial number of your player? Do you really need this program to make it work properly or can you get it elsewhere without serial number? will certainly try to convert, if i have a little more clarity on this subject... thnx. |

Any question you have about flashing can be answered here: Link
You can use iRiver Plus 2 but you need to register your product to download it. Also, the point of flashing to UMS firmware is that you do not have to use any software to copy and manage music. |

see here:
Here is Iriver Plus 2... to download without registration. BTW: I have registered at iriver.com but the download link dont work. Also on the european iRiver site the download of iriverplus dont work. Thats why I make this. Taucher

I've been thinking about that: The link would ONLY work if the user had registered a UMS T series' serial number. Registering an MTP serial would not work!
Apparently I was right...

I downloaded iriver plus 2 just after I got my player, and tried it out once I had converted my T20 to UMS. It works fine. I did not have to put my player serial number in to register either - I just signed up to the iriver website.

Yes I already got that but it's ver 2.4.0.0., I already had 2.4.1.0 and the latest is 2.6.1.0... The link doesn't work, don't know why...
EDIT: Just forget it, I just visited http://www.iriver.eu.com and although it is true that the link for 2.6.1.0 doesn't work the link for 2.6.0.0 works perfectly!!! Since the version the CD has is 2.4.0.0 (I'm guessing that's the version Taucher found) I'd suggest you go and grab it from there... HERE is the link while HERE is the page with the changes (and the previous link). Enjoy!

There are now 5 successful T10 upgrades and no failures according to http://www.mtp-ums.net/.
My first one was just a fluke. BTW. Isn't this the old MisticRiver colors? |

Following the instructions and using that site with the modded firmware. I was able to get it to a ums using the 2 step firmware. It worked just like it said and now shows up as a plug and play harddrive. I don't know what I would have done without this forum b/c it made me angry that it forced me to use wmp. Thanks |

I was able to convert my T10 with FM radio to UMS. I downloaded iriver plus 2 but had trouble get playlists to work. So I reflashed back to MTP and and have been successfully using Media Monkey to create and copy my playlists since.

My experiences with the MTP to UMS conversion:
I have a Black T10 2GB shipped with 1.71 MTP. On one comp with XP SP2, I didn't have to do anything - the T10 appeared as an MTP device and I could drag and drop using explorer(NOT WMP!). My other comp with XP SP1: the T10 did not appear or could not be accessed at all (can't remember which). Updated to WMP11 and then the T10 appears as MTP and I could drag and drop with explorer(again, never actually used WMP11 - just had to install it). I was pretty content but then noticed that I was having problems with OGG files where occasionally the T10 would 'select' a track and not play the very last second or so of that track consistently. If I reloaded the track from my comp, it may or may not go away but there seemed to be no guarantee of when the problem would re-occur with other files. Sooo...this is where I decided to make the switch of firmware to UMS. I think I read a post here saying that the update might cure my issue. The actual update was trouble-free. I downloaded the updater from iriver's site and ran through the steps as recommended, being sure to click the MTP -> UMS button. When I disconnected the player's USB, there was only one reboot (not multiple reboots as others report) and all was good. The OGG playback problem is still there...damn! It cuts off a second off the end of a track of its choosing. When I copy the file back to the computer, all the data is still there, including the tiny bit at the end the T10 won't play. I do have another minor (yet irritating) issue. As MTP I used to drag music folders without worry, but under UMS my T10 consistently reverses the order of my album subfolders. My folder structure is artist folder containing numbered album subfolders which contain numbered OGG or MP3 song files. With MTP I had no issues, but with UMS the T10 reverses my album subfolders (eg. "09 album title" is listed above/before "08 album title"). I used to be able to grab the whole artist folder and drag it to the T10 but now I have to manually grab each album in numerical order... I may be switching back to MTP...the only reason to change was for the OGG playback issue. Last edited by eeglug9999 : December 1st, 2006 at 08:15 AM. Reason: update |
