T30 "Can not install hardware"
My wife and I have just purchased two iriver t30's. One is the 512MB and the other is the 1GB. We however have run into a bind.
Intially, the T30 would not even read on our system. We have built in USB 2.0 however it may be due to a VIA problem only reading at 1.1 with SP2. I went out and purchased a new USB card that supports USB 2.0 by a different manufacture. This enabled us to plug in the T30 and have the computer catch that I plugged it in. The problem is, it asks to locate the software / driver for the new hardware. Anytime we click ok, it never finds the needed driver/software to install the T30's. It shows up under device manager under "other" as a t30 but with a yellow question mark. We have XP Home with all the latest updates ex: SP2. We have the latest version of WMP 10 that is recommended on irivers support page. We have gone through their hot fixes and reinstalling of WMP 10 to no availabilty. I have read through this board and irivers customer support board with no luck of a fix. We previously had two sandisks m200's which had the same problem, we thought it was the mp3 players and returned them for the irivers. However it is happening with these as well. Has anyone else run into this? Has anyone found any fixes / steps to get this installed so that I may use my rhapsody subscription Once again I appreciate any help. Please let me know if there is any further information needed. -Mike |

In dev manager, uninstall the device. Then right click on your computer in dev manager and choose "scan for hardware changes".
When the device is detected and prompts for driver installation, choose the directory manually. The file you are looking for it wpdmtp.inf. It's usually located in the c:\windows\inf directory. That installs the generic MTP driver, which the T30 uses. If the file is not in c:\windows\inf, do a search on your system for that file. If you don't have it, please send me a private message and I can provide you with the driver files. -John |

Try and give them a call. Don't forget to download Firmware upgrade 1.60 for an incredible improvement in the already very good sound.

mdeol's problem was a corrupt OS descriptor. He was one of only two people to experience this, so it likely isn't the same problem you have. See the link in my sig, all the information there applies to the T and U series as well as the H10's.
(Try the script I wrote, I put a bunch of time into it.

i guess i have a similar problem. but i already have the file wdpmtp.inf and still my t30 is not recognized. however an ordinary usb-stick needs a driver now and my (old) mp3player iriver ifp 380t is not recognized anymore although the sync-program is installed, it never need one. my usb-card supports usb 2.0 and the driver is installed correctly. i fear it all depends on installing media-player 10.
what could be the problem, or could the file wdpmtp.inf be damaged? blue angel Last edited by blue angel : April 14th, 2006 at 02:53 PM. |

im thinking about buying the T30 512 MB (Black/Silver) but after reading thru the forum here i've got a few questions before i go ahead and buy my first iRiver product - {my PC runs windows XP Pro with SP2 and WM10}
1) duz the T30 run on USB 1.1? evr1 here is talkin in terms of USB 2 but i've got USB 1.1 on my gigabyte mobo which i can really upgrade right now 2) can i drag n drop 2 store stuff on it using windows explorer? thers a lot of threads here about the MTP n UMS versions. do both allow drag n drop? ppl seem to be facing problems in connecting the t30 MTP version to their computers. is the UMS version better in this respect? n if so, is ther any way you can identify whether the t30 is an MTP or UMS version when ur buying it from a store (do they diffr in colour or sumthing)? im probably goin 2 ask my frnd 2 get it for me from the UK... did anyone face similar connection problems with the t20? 3) the iRiver PMP n PMCs com with Sennheiser headphones so duz the t30 also com with sennheiser headphones? i would like to kno whether they're good or shud i also ask my frnd 2 get me spare headphones? {i can only spare 10-15$ though thnx a lot. hopin sum1 can help me out. The drivers are included with WMP10 (or WMP11 beta). You need to have XP SP1 or SP2. If you still have problems after installing these see the link in my sig.
