How to convert T30 using MTP to UMS
Two days ago i bought an iriver t30. To my horror i find out that its not a UMS device. My bad, iknew there was UMS firmware for the ifp series and just assumed i could flash the player firmware with a UMS version.
Whilst trying to locate the UMS firmware for my MTP iriver t30, this is what ive found. Some of this will be relevent information for owners of H10 Jr., T30, T20, T10, H10 5GB / 6GB. YMMV! If the CD which came with your player has written on it 'Windoze Media Player 10' you have the MTP version. If the CD has 'Iriver Plus2' then you're lucky enough to have the UMS version. This page describes the software dependencies of all the newer iriver mp3 players. http://www.iriver.com/html/support/f...pSearchString= As you can see, only Canada, Europe & USA get the WiMP10 dependent versions of the players. This is the url on iriver global describing the availability of a t30 UMS firmware update. http://www.iriver.com/html/company/p...pSearchString= If you look at that page you will see that there is no hyperlink to the firmware download. Now using the 'next' and 'prev' buttons at the bottom of the that page you will find that all the other announcements concerning software/firmware/manuals have a hyperlink to the relevent download. So how do i get a UMS firmware upgrade? Iriver is a Korean company; the Korean version uses 'iriverplus2' to upgrade the players firmware, and is a UMS version. So I tried to get a copy of the 'Iriver Plus2' software from the Korean Website. The Korean iriver website uses EUC-KR encoding, so you'll need Korean fonts installed for these pages to display properly. This is the Korean T30 downloads page. No firmware available here. http://service.iriver.co.kr/qk_list.asp?p_name=T30 This is the URL for the 'iriver plus2' software. iriverplus2.1.1.0 http://service.iriver.co.kr/qk_pds_o...539&p_name=T30 Now unfortunately i can't read Korean, so the error message means nothing to me. I suspect it says something like 'Download only available to registered users'. Next i found this posted by 1121 in reference to the T10 'The iriver plus2 software is available for download but for only the people who have registered the iriver products that are supported by iriver plus2 (such as T10, H10 Jr. etc). Basically, the software is not yet made available for international customers.' Now I spend several fruitless hours searching for information on how to register my player. At this point i gave up. My current best guess is that if someone posts a URL to a copy of 'Iriver Plus2' it MAY be possible to download the firmware onto the player. Or perhaps if someone posts a URL to UMS firmware for t30 it may be possible to copy it into the data folder on the player and have it upgrade that way. Personally I'm beginning to suspect that Iriver REALLY dont want Canadian, European & American customers to have a UMS capable player. My Solution? I'm going to send my t30 back and buy an iaudio5 instead. |

Well it would bother me, I never liked WMP10, I always prefered WMP9, much better interface and less (in comparison) intrusive... but I guess to everyone it's own, you like 10 so it's fine for you, I like 9 so I'll either wait for the UMS version to happen or if I get tired of waiting I'll buy that inexpensive Maxfield G-Flash that I saw; it won't play OGG which is a big deal but for 113.30 euros for 1GB (as opposed to the 135 euros which is THE lowest price for the T30, 150 being its' official price (the pure version aka no FM)) I guess it's ok...

Never tried this myself, but I'd wager that if you like WMP9 but want to use a t30 with it, you could install just the WMP10 redist and keep the 9 UI.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891122 Of course mixing and matching binaries like this can also leave you completly broken. So I guess this is "an exercise left to the reader".

I was wondering.. what you guys see in WMP at all?
p.s. and about video playing - I HATE the WMP keys... Why do I need to press this ***ing Ctrl+P just to pause playing my video? I prefer using SpaceBar in Crystal or MediaPlayerClassic (Not MS, but QuickTimeAlternative s software) |

I like Winamp (5.12) too but it has a couple of drawbacks:
-I like listening to entire albums and several times (usually when it's a live) the tracks continue when the previous has left; Winamp doesn't correctly seamlessly play the tracks (meaning a gap is introduced). That kinda annoys me -another thing is that winamp (at least without 3rd party's plug-ins) doesn't show the lyrics of a song; that also kinda sucks. Still for playlists on the fly instead of entire albums I still prefer it to WMP That of course is for audio; for ALL video there is only ONE way to go and that of course is Media Player Classic, the heavily hacked version of the original Windows Media Player 6 (I too will only accept spacebar for the play/pause function plus I prefer using my mouse's side buttons to skip chapters/files) |

there is no such plug in in WinAmp 5, there is the crossfading ability hard-coded in it but it won't function for 0 seconds so it still won't do, and I even remember it not working correctly at version 2 either; as for 5, I just like the interface better, especially the way the library works
Yeah, the fullscreen mode for WMP9-10 is terrible... - Ok, I take it back, don't know bout the plug in you mentioned but Gapless_audio_output .exe from Christian Volmer sure does the job; unfortunately the fade-ins and outs the DirectOut plugin (the default) had does not work (obviously) but what can you do? Now for the lyrics... Last edited by Keyper7 : January 31st, 2006 at 08:29 AM. Reason: Update |

Hi everyone, first of all sorry for mi english, I'm from Argentina and I'm a bit rusty but I'll try to do my best.
I've finally converted my iRiver T30 (no FM from US V1.02) from MTP to UMS. Here is what I did: 1.- Download Firmware V1.53 from: http://www.iriver.com/html/support/d...pSearchString= (here you will find that there's a specific file for T30 without FM, the file is "T30_MPURE_V150. zip". 2.- Then you will have to install it manully (don't know why, but this way worked for me). To install it manually you have to extract the files and copy the one called T30_MPURE.HEX to the "Data" directory of the Player (I recomend to format the driver so you won't have any problems, do as you like). Then unplug the Player and turn it off, it will automatically start Upgrading the Firmware (during this you must not touch anything). IMPORTANT: IF IT DOESN'T STARTS UPGRADING ON ITS OWN IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE WRONG FILE, NOTHING WILL HAPPEND TO THE DRIVER, JUST HAVE TO FIND THE RIGHT ONE. IF YOU PUT THE WRONG ONE IT WILL STAR NORMALLY. 3.- If you could Upgrade to V1.53 then you have to download the iriverFirmwareUpdate r from here: http://www.iriver.com/html/support/d...pSearchString= 4.- Extract the file and execute the file, follow the steps (you must be conected to the web because the program downloads the latest Firmware from there). 5.- Once it´s finished unplug the Player and the Firmware will re-start Upgrading on the Player without you touching anything. Wait until it is done. 6.- Now you can convert your device to UMS with the same program. Conect your player to the PC, execute the iriverFirmwareUpdate r again, and when you can see the option that sais "MTP <-> UMS" clic it and repeat the same process you did previously. 7.- Unplug the device and the Firmware Upgrade will re-start alone in the Player, wait until it is done and DONE, YOU DID IT, YOUR T30 IS UMS. For those who want to use it in Windows 98, here is how you have to do it: 1.- Download the USM T30 Drivers from: http://www.iriver.com/html/support/d...pSearchString= Inside this file you have the drivers for all the T models. 2.- Download this Win98 USB Driver Updater: http://www.lemnews.com/dl/nusb22e.exe Mirror: http://rapidshare.de/files/1217842/nusb22e.exe Once you download it install it and reboot. 3.- Conect the Player and when Windows asks for the drivers go to the folder where you extracted the T30 UMS drivers, windows will detect the driver and you can acces it from the explorer or my pc. I hope this work for many people, I spent days looking for a way of coneccting my T30 in Win98. I believe that the same process can be followed for other models, just change the downloads from T30 to the one you have. |

You may want to try this. I have used the firmware updater from this site to convert from MTP to UMS with both my U10 and my T10. I think you can do this with the T30 as well.

I upgraded mine to UMS via Win2K which can't even install WMP10 as it isn't available for it. One can even upgrade it via Linux, and that certainly doesn't use WMP10.
To upgrade a T30 from MTP to UMS one does NOT need either WinXP or WMP10. Just search the forum before posting misleading info. Some folk might actually believe you! |
