T20 ot T30 or maybe ifp-799
Hi, I have a 100 series ifp player and used it may hours a day for a long time and it's great. However now I want to upgrade to something with more capacity ie 1Gb and need some help. I'd decided on an ifp-799 but now the T20 & 30 are out but I carn't find a comprehensive review.
There seems to be alot of discussions around the limitations of the new devices but most of this seems to be based on assumtions of the spec's rarther than actual complaints. As far as the radio goes i've never had one on my existing player so I don't think i'll miss it. Is the radio on the 799 really any good? most of the devices i've tried that used the earphones as an ariel wern't really worth having. I'm most interested in the T20 with the included proper USB port. This would make it real portable without having to have the unique cable. Can anyone that has one review it? does it feel like it is robust or will it break easy. How do the T20 & 30 compare? How is the battery life? (this looks like it might be the biggest difference i'll notice). The T20 & T30 are priced cheaper than the 799, i'd kind of expected the price of the 799 would come down when the new players were launched but they havn't yet. Thanks in advance, Brett. |

I don't haven't been able to play areound with the new players, but i do have the iriver 800 series mp3 player. It has the same insides as the 700 series. the only difference is the outside.
The radio is crappy and I was told is was good compared to others. So never buy a mp3 player for its radio. Unless you live close by the radio station you like (within 10 miles with no trees) or a high powered one. If you want a great portable radio go to circuitcity and buy a 15 dollar one. If you ever want to find a review on a hard to find product, just type the Maker, model number and then type in review (example: iRiver T30 review). From what i can see the T10 would be the best one to go with, but the only thing is that its big. Look at the dimensions on iRiver.com and compare them with the 700 and you'll see what I mean. Of course if it's a 1/4 larger maybe you don't care. It wouldn't make a big difference to me, I would just want the nice screen Hope you make the right decision Last edited by Jonnyk429 : August 30th, 2005 at 09:04 AM. |

Thanks for the info on the radio, it confirms what I thaught.
For me smaller is better, my mp3 spends most of it's time in my pocket. I can skip songs adjust the volume & change albums without even taking it out. I'm hoping the new players are just as easy to operate since they have ditched the the thumb stick. Thats why i'm looking at the T20 or 30 rarther than the 10. |

I can't comment directly on the T20 or T30, but I have a T10, which I understand to be very similar in many componants to teh T30. It's built in radio function worked durprisingly well. I live in a metropolitan area but could easily pick up nearly 20 stations with perfect clarity. Although obviously, your milage may vary.
I had an opportunity to handle the T30, and I must say that it does feel very sturdy. Thus far the T10 has been a very resilient play. My biggest concerns with it structurally, is that I'm constiently terrified I'm going to scratch of otherwise damage the beautiful screen. Also, the HOLD button mechanism worries me. I'm afraid that it might break off, although it's thus far been very stable, it just "feels" like it wouldn't take much pressure to break it. The T30 has a standard type of HOLD button instead of the ring style that the T10 has though, so it shouldn't be a problem.
