s10.sys: what's in it?

hi there,

trying to recover what's there in the s10.sys which is hidden in the root folder, they say it contain the firmware version, but how exactly look the contents of this file? i have my s10 formatted, i would like to recreate the directory structure and system files, wondering if that'll make it update the firmware and start playing...

thanks..

OR better just upload it somehow!

i searched a bit and found t20.sys, i bet they won't differ much:

[T20]
version = 1.01
language = est
mode = UM
tuner = OK
space = 1G

using it as a template, i figured that s10's will be

[S10]
version = 1.01
language = est
mode = UM
tuner = OK
space = 2G

is that right?

May I ask why you need it there?
If you were trying to restore the player to exactly how it came in the box then it seems rather pointless to me to try and restore unnecessary files. If you were selling the player on then the person who's buying it isn't gonna know any better, or if you were returning it (for repair/replacement/refund/whatever) then I'm highly sure that iRiver or whichever shop you bought it at will be bothered about a few files missing...

Maybe I'm completely missing he point here?

thank you for your reply, but you indeed miss the point. i'm trying to get my player working again after i killed the partition from it. so it would be more effective if you'd just listed what's there in that s10.sys, in case if you own one, of course.
by the way, try to delete that unnecesary file and try to update the firmware using iriver plus. it'll tell you that you've got a network error.
i just donno if that's the case when updating via simply copying the HEX file to root folder, anyway my s10 doesn't recognize any *.hex, nor kor neither est neither lat versions, so i'm trying different things including getting familiar with what's there in s10.sys. the whole problem is described here s10 won't get alive after deleting the partition

Unfortunately I no longer have the S10.sys file on my player, but never use iRiverPlus anyway so haven't had any problems as a result.
I'll have a look tonight though to see what happens if I load it up and there is no .sys file on the player to see if I have the same problems as you describe.

Okay so I do have a S10.sys file on my player. It could have been created because I've just opened iriverplus, or it could have been there all along and I was just being stupid.
You're pretty close with your guess, this is what mine has:
Code:
[S10]
version = 1.05
language = est
mode = UM
tuner = OK
space = 2G
burn = 1

@mlekodukye:
hi,
have you solved your problem?
sorry i read late your requests in the old thread..
so, my S10.SYS [remember, capitol letters also for TUNER.DAT] contains these lines:

Quote:
[S10]
version = 1.05
language = eng
mode = UM
tuner = OK
space = 2G
burn = 1
hoe this helps,

Francesco

thanks for the listings, guys!

but that won't help...( even as i am finally able to start the firmware update using iriver plus once i've placed this s10.sys into root folder, the player simply shuts down after i'm told to disconnect it in order to re-flash the firmware. it obviously doesn't recognise ANY firmware, be it just copied *.hex or downloaded via iriver plus.. it surely will take me to dig deep into the basic principles of how the firmware updates itself, how and where it sits in player's memory, what occurs if it's damaged and so on, if i want to repair it by myself.. but it seems like i'd rather give up and take it to repair center. it sucks though, i really want to know what's going on..
but where can i find such technical information?..
