Minor S10 Problems

I've modified a v1.05 firmware .hex (changes below) but when i copy it to the root directory of my S10 it says its updating FW, shutting down. Then when I turn it back on it says updating FW, scanning for files, can't find FW and then works as normal!? It also doesn't automatically delete the .hex file afterwards.
I can't remeber what region FW I modded (either kor, est, lat, jap and could be either S10.hex or S10N.hex) I also noted when I renamed the modded hex to S10N.hex, unlike S10.hex my S10 doesn't even 'see' the file. Does only the right firmware for each region install modded .hex's as any origional .hex will work?

Modifications are:
1. Battery bar when turned on, changed from always green to; 3 green, 2 orange and 1 red bar(s)
2. Changed hebrew font to match other fonts (more modern)
Everything else is the default images/animatons/colours etc...

(I have attached an uncompressed .zip containing files needed to make my S10 mod as the .hex file was too big to attach. It also includes the original and modified hebrew fonts (in .bmp's))

Other little questions that i've seen asked on these forums but couldn't find answers were:
1. Only chinese (simp & trad), korean and japanese languages changed the menus (and mainly the settings, nearly everything else was in english) all other languages appeared as english.
2. Confusion over regional versions
jap (JP) = japanese (DL japanese) kor (KR) = korean (DL korean)
lat (LA) = latin america??? (DL english) est (AU) = australia??? (DL english)
And if the player can support chinese (simp & trad) why is there no update with chinese as the default language (DL)?
3. Difference between S10 and S10N?

phew! A lot of q's but atleast it's all in one place for other S10 users.
