Any good cases out yet?

Anyone know of any protective cases for the s10? Basically something to keep it from getting crushed if its in my laptop bag, or if anything, something to go over it while its around my neck.

Had a hectic first day this new semester in college and was just wondering.

Thanks.

Angry S-10 cases availability

Dark Meteroid:

Advanced MP3 players has black and white silicon cases a set of one each for about 13#British. Unfortunately, the won't take AMEX or ship to the Hew Ess of A. So I can't tell you to much about them. I , too, would like to obtain a case for my S10 on the way. Any suggestions out there? Jim

Bah, I'm tempted to make my own somehow. I remember I made one for my H320 back then, and it was a lot bigger.

I found a case on Ebay as I recall. It looks like a cloth bag with a Snap closer. about $9.00 plus postage. From the land of OZ. Comes Hot Pink and bright green. I ordered one out of desperation. When it comes in I will send you the Email address, price and a better description. I looking at it as a scratch protection only case. Jim

Dark Meteroid: Here's a thought. Get a crest dental floss case, ribbon style floss. It's Outside measurements 38mm widex 50mm tallx17 mm deep. The one with flip top marlboro box type lid. The S-10 is 28mmWx42mmTx11mmD.
Open the dental floss box it's split Vertcally along side top to bottom. I used dikes (from hay harvesting days) and files to excise all lumps and bumps on the interior. Also excise top lip on Front secton. A Dremel cutting and sanding tool would do it perfectly, with engineering precision. I used slash and burn technique on mine. I may get a new box and be more careful next time. Anyway I'm letting the glue dry on place I cracked top front edge and where I glued back in the plastic window. I think with minor modifications and a bit of drilling the top flap I've got a hard case to drop S10 in. Cons it's ugly and you have to take it out to turn unit on or off. But it will brotect the S10 from being beat up by a lap top or keys in your pocket. Nice quick DIY project to keep you out of the Super J or Eskimo Joes tonight. Think of it as the MP3 equivalent of CMoy amplifier. He uses altoid tins as a case for his amplifiers, (check it out on EBay) . Jim

Eh?
What is it about 'ships worldwide' that means that they exclude the US?

I got all the way to pay the bill and hit two dead policemen(speed bumps in Britian) Google didn't like my AMEX card and they said no shipping to USA. What I will try is go back in and not try to buy them with my Google account. I overlooked the ships worldwide story, Thanks for the info. PS those of you trying dental floss box rebuilt its Crest Glide brand ribbon Dental Floss. Jim

You're right about the AMEX thing which is, I'm afraid, a perfectly reasonable thing for a small company like Amp3 to do.
But drop 'em a line and tell 'em what you're after, I'm sure they'll be able to sort something out for you.

I've just ordered those cases for my S10. Still showing as out of stock and awaiting a delivery date. If you're prepared to hang on, I'll post pics and my opinion when they do arrive.

If you find yourself near Edinburgh or Glasgow at any point, they actually have small outlets.
I'm not saying they'll have the cases in stock but if you're passing it might be worth looking in...

I live in Falkirk but I might be going in to Edinburgh next week. If I'm down near Ocean Terminal I might pop in. That said, since I've already ordered them, they may well arrive before I get to Edinburgh.

I placed my name on their waiting list to get the cases when they come in. They're good with payPal so I'm OK on that end too. I think my glitch was using GOOGle to pay for things to save typing in all my data. Otherwise, I'd have a pair on the way now. Dang, Jim

You should be in the stadium if you're a Sooner. If a cowboy I'm not sure if they're playing today. H ave to check with my neice, shes the OSU alumni in the family. While you were enjoying the game I was out at the local french alliance TAR JAY. Johnson and Johnson Reach dental floss case, you don't have to eviscerate nada. Flip lid lift out floss on reel. Pack with cotton
or foam insert (as it is a bit wide and a bit tall) drill hole for iem hookups in the flip top. Drop S-10 in an you are set. I think either dental floss case will protect your player from banging arround successfully. Either way have to take it out of case to operate it. Johnson and Johnson case is a bit big. Crest case better/tighter fit but requires surgical approach. See what you think. Jim

Received my silicone cases cases today and I think I'll be returning them (though I've not entirely decided).
They fit snugly, don't interfere with the controls and have access holes in all the correct places. I can see how they would help stop minor dings on the corners (which is where mine is showing wear) but there's one glaring omission.
The one area where you would expect protection - the screen - is the one area not protected. I had an iSkin for my H120 and it had a very useful screen protector that fitted nicely under the case. I don't see why this couldn't have had something similar.

The other thing is - why black and white? The white one makes it look like a rubbery Apple product. The black one is ok but really doesn't do anything for the aesthetics of the player at all. I can only see me ever using one of them, so not great value for money really.
I think I've just talked myself into sending them back.

John

I remember a thread from years(?) ago on misticriver where someone dyed their silicone case with fabric dye, and it working out well. You could try something like that to make the white more palatable.

Will the cases fit over a static-cling screen protector?

I remember that as well. Now that's worth a thought - definitely personalised.

I don't see any reason why not. You could even get away with a relatively thick piece of transparent material since the overlap round the screen edge is quite large. All it leaves visible is the display area itself.

I had a closer look at my S10 and it is definitely showing signs of wear and tear. I may just keep them anyway.

John

jko et alia:
I've got the silicon cases on order from UK now. I found a screen protector on E bay. A pair of them were about 1/2 the price of the pair of Brit cases. I don't own Ipod, but the other silicon cases I've got came without screen protectors. I ordered some Gameboy screen protectors and cut those to fit. Try Electronic Botique for those. If you want something to drop the S10 it to protect the corners from dings. Buy Johnson and Johnsonr Reach Dental floss. Lift out the roll of floss, drop in s10. It's a sloppy fit, might pack it with cotton or some foam to make it nice. It will prevent dings on the corners though. I'm considering drilling a hole in side of floss box and notching the edge to run the earphones out. Select music on S10 turn it on, hook up phones drop S10 in pocket ad I'm set. I've got 2 types of cloth cases one with strap snap closure and one with flap, velcro dot closure on order from OZ, another E bay item. I'll post the website and cost when they come in. They might defuse some ding risk. Jim

I am annoyed how come Iriver doesn't come out with a case for this thing, they know that people are going to buy them why can't they think ahead. Also how is it that a neoprene silicon type skin is 25 dollars, if you buy the one from the UK, it costs maybe 2 dollars to make, lastly how come another company one that maybe thrives on ebay hasn't made a replica of the silicone case so US buyers can start buying them. It seems to me that other companies ipod of course but creative and others have so many accesories for their products and iriver lags behind always. Just needed to vent, I love iriver products but man they need some help in their accesories dept.

Yeah, I actually was about to purchase one of the silicon cases, but now I can't find them anywhere. Sucks.
