New S10 user, question about firmware version

Hi All,

I did a search on the forum and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I just received an S10 from Jeff (used unit used by CNN for their review), and I upgraded the firmware through the iriver plus 3 software to the most current version it detected, which is 1.03. The firmware version stated on my S10 is now 1.03 AU.

I'm in the United States and was wondering what the "AU" stood for and did I install the US firmware version (English)?

I also checked out the manual firmware page (link through the Wiki) and can't seem to figure out which one to download for manual updates if needed. I like to keep a hard copy of the firmware on my computer hard drive.

Thanks so much for any help!

I'm guessing that AU will be the Australian version of the Firmware. I'm not familiar with the features of the S10, but I don't think it will make much difference. The only things I can think of that might be different between the AU and US firmwares (if there is an equivalent US FW) are the FM radio settings and possibly a different volume limit.

Thanks so much for your reply, Shadesbass

Do you have any idea how to get the US firmware? I was a bit confused as to which one it would be on the page linked to through the Wiki.

Is this where you got the FW from before?
I assume the top link is the most recent and correct available FW. Like I said, I don't think it will make much, if any, difference having AU instead of US.

Thanks for the link. Actually, I got the firmware upgrade through iriver plus 3 software as iriveramerica and the global iriver site don't give the actual file and tell you to upgrade through the iriver plus 3 software, so that's how I got it.

The player was the one used for the CNN review and had on there 1.03 AU, so iriver plus 3 upgraded it to 1.05 AU.

I'm just having a few issues with the player and wanted to do a fresh reload of the firmware, so I guess I'll download the ones from the japan wiki link and see what's in all the versions and perhaps go from there.

UPDATE: I did find a direct link to the 1.05 US firmware on the forum Manually upgraded the firmware to my S10 and it does read 1.05 US.

Thanks for your help.

mm, interesting. do you notice anyvolume differences? you know, AU (european) version SHOULD have volume limiter...
i have a european/AU S10, so this info will be worthy, 'cause nobody on the forum has confirmed any change between the europeans and the other countries' S10s

moreover: how do you manually upgrade the firmware?
did you place the s10.hex in the root dir?

thanks in advance,

francesco

Hi Francesco

I did not notice any volume difference between the AU and US firmwares at all. Both have ample volume. I have to keep my volume around 8-10 in most cases, 4-5 at night while in bed and it is plenty loud. I'm using Creative EP-630 canal buds.

I downloaded the US firmware from here:
http://www.iriverplus.com/update/fir...10/eng/S10.HEX

And then just dragged and dropped the S10.HEX it to the root of the S10, safely dismounted the S10 from my computer and then the update occurs automatically (it just takes a few seconds, not long at all). Then the screen goes black and you just turn it on and there it is.

@mdscriber3: thanks for answers.

@harajukumatt: well, try the "new thread" button in the top left page, for example, in the S10 main page: http://www.misticriver.net/forumdisplay.php?f=145
