Cool S10 / Bug ("self" switch-on)

Hi there

I found out (at least since I updated my S10 to Version 1.3) that the player has a problem.

Almost when I taked out of my bag the battery was empty, but I did'nt understand why. After some "playing" with the scree-buttons I registered an unwanted effect: When I push on the display to see the time and I wait until it disappears and press then very fast on the other side... the unit is switching on like by pressing the "on/off"-button. Do you have the same situation?

Regards from the swiss alps!

Yes, I can confirm it does it with mine too and that's with FW 1.01.

I've been caught a couple of times with this and could never figure out how I had managed to switch it on.

Press and hold one of the front-face edges for a few seconds.

Interesting, I also can't confirm (1.03). So now we have 2 yes, 2 no, does
not look like it's just one freak unit.

Please test again with some really fast pushes after the display goes off. I tried always the opposite side which I pressed to see the time. And, to be honest, first time I found out by unwanted pressing during cleaning the display. Afterwards I began to try what he do when I press only the other side of the display several time in a quick row.

By the way: I've activated flip-display, not yet tried in "origin"-display orientation.

@gcellama: Do you have a specific US-Firmware? That means without (stupid) EU-Volume-Limitation?

I can confirm this bug exists on my unit. 2GB version, firmware 1.03 Korean.

For those trying to reproduce this bug, try activating the clock, then rapidly press any button as the clock is turning off. The unit will turn itself on.

I was wondering why my unit was dying in my pocket sometimes!

Confirmed:

With 1.03 KOR, 1.03 LAT, 1.03 EST, 1.03 JPN versions of firmware S10 shows up the time when pressing edges when it's off.

It's a real annoying BUG!.

Well, I think the bug exists on all units - but some lucky people was not yet affected of in the past and some others are to slow with button-pushing to reproduce the bug

Will see if the error still occur in next firmware-version.

Another question is still the volume-limitation. I tried to find other Firmware without, but it seems that this will not exist (I guess). Has anyone a Firmware-Version 1.3 which is 100% without limitation?

Thanks for your support, people!

I think that if the volume limitation is only for the euro zone, if you install korean or japanese firmware this limitation would be not present.

I tried and testet out with JPN & KOR Firmware - but there is no difference. If you have a well mastered and afterwards well ripped Audio (i.e. Jan Delay) there will be absolut no more volume increasing from 22 until 40. The only thing I not tested - to make an Hardreset after changing the Firmware, but I think it's also nut necessary.

I have had the same with the T10 until I have found an "open" firmware.

I've discovered that when i use the User Eq. the volume limit is 25 on 40 available; but if i use any other Eq. the volume settings work up to 40.
My Firmware (upgraded) is 1.03 KR

You are right man! I worked always with the User-EQ - so that was the reason why I was not able to increase the volume upper than 25 (even it shows).

Thank you!

So, did they limit volume in 1.03 update? Has somebody "open" firmware? And how to do hardreset in s10?

The problem that S10 is switching on by pushing the screen still exist in firmware 1.05 AU. It happens several time that my battery came empty out of my back pack. When will this bug be solved Iriver?

Have you reported this bug to them? I don't know if they take the time to read all the posts in every thread for every device on this site. Go on report it to them, then you can know it was you that made it happen when it gets fixed.

I have seen no indication that anyone from iriver reads this site at all. It is independently run.
