File Transfer Problem

I just picked up an S10 yesterday, and whilst this player is one seriously sexy piece of kit, I am having untold problems getting any media content on it...

I have tried downloading mp3s to the player via iriver plus 3 & via drag & drop, but in both cases the transfer fails with the error message "cannot find the specified file - make sure you supply the correct path & file name" and the S10 is then locked up with the image 'USB busy...do not disconnect' even when I unplug it, and the only way to fix the problem is to press the 'reset' button every time.

It usually transfers about 3 mp3s before locking up.

Has anyone else had this issue? Could it be a faulty player, or is it more likely to be a firmware problem?

I also have a G1 iPod Shuffle, and that transfers files perfectly well so I don't think it's a problem with my PC...

possible fix...

OK after trying many things without any joy, I went into the computers BIOS and noticed it had an option for "USB perf mode". It had 4 settings : 'compatible', 'normal', 'optimal', 'fast'.

I changed it from 'compatible' all the way up to 'fast'. It seems to transfer OK now, but I can't plug many USB devices in now as it uses up all the bandwidth! I tried changing the "USB perf mode" to 'optimal' and 'normal' but neither of those had any success.

So, I don't really know what the difference is, and I no NOTHING about USB but changing that BIOS setting seemed to have fixed the problem. If anybody can shed any light onto the matter I'd be interested to hear read your response.

NB. I've only done 2 lots of file transfer since and they both worked (about 5 albums at a time) so only time will tell if it's fully fixed the problem...

I have bought my S10 a week ago, and having the same problem. While copying a whole album from a hard drive, system transfers several files, and then hangs up for a while, then continues again, than again hangs. Sometimes device even disappear as disk drive and this produces copying error of course.
This happens regardless of copying method ether by Explorer/Total Commander or by iriver plus 3. Upgrading firmware to 1.05AU didn’t helped.

This is really annoying thing. Please Help!

Actually I don't want to play with USB settings in the BIOS, since I have many other USB devices, and all of them are working perfectly.

Another strange moment, that S10 doesn’t detected as a disk drive when connected through a straight USB extension cable. But charging still appears on the screen.
Again all my other USB devices (transcend flash, IrDa, Sony N1 Camera) are working correctly through this cable.

My PC: MB ASUS P5B-E, CPU Core2Duo E4300, XP Pro SP2

Hi guys,
i can see this is an old thread, but I've found the same problem and I'm hoping someone can help. I don't know how to go into the BIOS, and i'm not too keen on playing with the settings anyway because it's a family computer.
Any ideas?

Problem Solved!

Hi again,

I called to my very friendly Iriver Support Tech who fixed me right up. She said that the s10 required a fast USB drive (which corresponds to MauwzerDAP's solution) so I should try using the USB port at the back of the computer rather than the front. Worked a charm, and I'm so relieved!

Other advice given:
- Don't use the Windows drag-and-drop method to add music, as it can disrupt the file organisation.
- Music from free sites can cause a problem, and some paid music can only be transferred a certain number of times.
Use the Iriver program, and the transfer button in particular, to add music.
yay iriver!

Hey. I also got some kind of transfer problem with my s10. When i plug it in it says something like this "Unbable to connect the unit". It is in danish so its maybe not the correct translation. It also says something wierd when i charge it. "Insert new batteries" which is pretty hard on s10. HELP!

Kristian

P.s. It has worked before.
