Using the H140 without the remote?

Is it possible to connect just headphones without using the remote and operate everything from the main unit itself?

Bit obvious though though isn't it?

Main unit has about 4 buttons and a joystick - wonder what they do...

Exactly! I have an iMP-550 and it can only be used with the remote, but the remote adds 2 cables to my pocket (the remote cable and the headpone extension cable) plus another two cables with my Sharp HP-MD33s canalphones and I often tend to get messed up in all these cables...

Not really obvious with iRiver. Because with iMP-350 and iMP-400 you can only control some features of these players from the unit itself.

Ok then. Answer: Yes. It is fully functional minus a remote, but less sexy and harder to control if you like to skip tracks a lot (like me!).

Hmm, then the iRiver H1xx series seem to be some very good players after all.... I used to despise them because for some reason I thought they can only be used with the remote, like the iMP-550.

Even if you wanted to buy one you will have a little trouble finding one, they have been discontinued for some time now

I found that using the remote is essential when the player is attached to a belt clip.

Although I like to plug the stereo in through the line-in and plug the remote in to control it with.

Remote

I've only had my H140 9 days but so far, I've at best found no real use for the remote and at worst don't really like it or get on with it. Though once I get listening I don't tend to want to jump forwards or back wards to different tracks.

the remote is possibly my favourite bit!

keep the unit hidden away in your bag and control everything with a tiny device

it really depends what i'm doing...if i'm on teh go.....the unit stays inthe bag and the remote is whipped out. Otehrwise if i'm still sitting down or something then the remote is annoying! i always pull it off when i'm sitting down or something.

And the answer:- yes you can
