I just got my two iHP-120's from this eBay seller, Unfortunately one has lots of chips all over it, so I have contacted the seller about this. Not happy. They're supposed to be brand new. If anyone is interested, I shall let you know the outcome.
The other one is perfect, I honestly believe this is brand new, although a new serial sticker has been stuck over the original. |

With our luck, future operating systems will not support the "legacy" plug and play feature of the irivers. That would be a drag after getting everything else sorted out.

Solder doesn't evaporate and can last 50 or 60 years or longer. While some have said that solder may need to be redone every twenty years or so, in practice I have never found this to be true. The only thing that might be a problem would be the electrolytics as they dry out but the chips and board would be fine. Maybe the screen might eventually go bad but maybe not. I would say with storage and new batteries these things can go for many, many years. The one thermal problem might be the recharging circuit as this has to dissipate heat and heat is the enemy.
I have read of some new batteries that will use micro tubes that will allow for 10 times the same storage for a given size so right now a 2200Ma in the 120/140 would be a 22,000Ma. Now that would be some life. Recharge would take a while though but the run time would be around 120 to 140 hours. Last edited by jamato8 : April 18th, 2008 at 09:36 PM. |

I replaced my battery with the 2200mAh, and I seem to be getting about 7 hours of life running mostly VBR (~160 kbps) mp3s. With the stock battery I'm running about 5 hours. This is using Rockbox. Not sure if I should be worried, but I do notice that my H120 does get a bit warm near the bottom of the player when I play music without the AC adapter. There's no sign of burns on the motherboard when I installed the battery.
I bought the adapter from iRiverAmerica's website, but sometimes when I use the H120 with the AC adapter and have its hard drive spin around a bit, it shuts down spontaneously shortly after Rockbox displays the menu, or if I'm lucky when I'm selecting songs. The backlight goes out first, and then the LCD shuts off. I did notice that the battery voltage dips very close 3.5 volts, the normal empty battery voltage, when I plug in the adapter, which may be why the player shuts off unexpectedly. That, or the battery was low to begin with, but I don't think so because when I first installed the battery, it was approximately 30% full when I started recharging it. I will try recharging with the AC adapter I was using before and see if the problem happens again. |

I put the quote on quote around hacked because I think it was an inside job, personally speaking. Out of the 2 years prior to that incident, I had only used the account ONCE in order to purchase a turntable arm cartridge from someone. After that, the account was just sitting there doing nothing. Then one day (more than a year after) I was at a local pharmacy purchasing a bottle of water and some junk food with my debit card, which is linked directly to that particular checking account and it was declined. I thought it a mistake, since I knew there was at least a couple thousand in that account, and decided to go to my bank which happened to have a branch on that corner. As it turns out, I was shown a negative balance due to everything being funneled into MY paypal account, awaiting final approval to move to some anonymous email address ! Long story short, I rushed my ass home, canceled the transaction by calling PP and telling them of the fraudulent activity and had the bank straighten the rest of it out. I came -.- that close to being totally screwed.. Afterwards, PP decided to get their legal representatives to send me a lovely letter stating that I was being sued for said amount, because I somehow cheated THEM out of MY money !!! After that, let's just say that both their legal team and administration got their asses chewed out but good. And yeah, they apologized. Wow, good on them, eh ? ![]() So yeah, I'll personally never let PP have my business ever again. And since PP and eBay are one in the same..... In a pinch though, I'll use a friend's or relatives account, since they don't give a rats patoot. Hope that explanation satisfies.

No, they do not come with a case.
They are "white box" units. Come with the player, USB Cable and generic earbuds. Brand New units though with full iriver 1 year warranty. And remember... mention "misticriver" in the order comments and get one for $139.99US. Hard to beat...

Mine was exactly as promised. Not that Jeff needs it, but I'm off to the BST forum to leave some rather slobbery (in a good way!) positive feedback....
