Exclamation Problems with A-Data CF 32 GB card...

So I received my A-Data 32 GB Compact Flash card from newegg.com today. I put the adapter in the h120 and the 32 gb card and connect it to the pc. The little icon in the tray pops up, but no luck in being able to open the directory.

I end up attach the 32 gb CF card to my compact flash usb reader. I format it to FAT32 with windows and load some songs and rockbox firmware. Everything connected in the H120, and I only get as far as the bootloading screen where it tells the voltage of the battery and whatnot. It just freezes in this screen. What can be the issue?

Is there a master and slave switch on the adapter? There should be and you want it set for master but it should have come that way.

I was given the impression in another thread that this does not matter. If it does there will be an issue of getting the adapter to fit inside the H120...

I did find this link: CFModGuide < Main < TWiki

The only thing is it seems VERY technical. It would take me hours to complete such a Rockbox mod.

P.S. Also after a while in the Bootloader screen Rockbox will Display a message of "No Partion Found." What does this mean?

I don't know how much help I can be, because I only had to do the very basics in the CFMod thread here in order to get mine running.

What firmware is on the H120 now?

I wonder if it would make any difference if you used Swissknife to format it.

Everyone else seemed to get this mod to work effortlessly...

I'll try swissknife tonight, but I don't know if it'll do any good. Other people used Windows to format their 32 gb A-datas and it worked for them.

Anyways I am currently trying to learn how to build a rockbox firmware from the link that I provided. Hopefully there's a simpler way of doing it, but if not hopefully the rockbox tutorial will help.

Thanks for your replies by the way.

Ah too bad, the SwissKnife does not support Mac. These people need to get it together. The Mac crowd is getting bigger! :^)

Still no solution... I've pm'ed a couple of people who have had the mod work for them, but nobody has gotten back to me. I am VERY frustrated at this point. I bought the CF Card in hopes that it would be a plug and play situation. I have been at this for hours and I do not know what I am doing wrong...

First off, tell us exactly what it says on the boot screen and we'll see if that gives us any clue as to why it's not working

Ok well... I guess I didn't understand how this mod worked. I just flashed the Rockbox firmware to the RAM and now rockbox boots off of this. So it is working now...

Ok so you loaded RockBox and the latest firmware and then did a firmware update from the menu, is that what you are saying?

Yes I flashed the Rockbox firmware to the RAM by entering the ".rockbox" folder from the Player itself. I held down the "Navigation" button and selected ".iriver.flash" After that was done it booted with the CF Card.

By the way I updated the bootloader to the latest one before flashing the rockbox firmware on the RAM. Another thing is that the Rockbox firmware was written over the iRiver firmware in this situation.

I'm a bit lost here and was wondering would you be able to do a basic step by step tutorial on how and what you had to do to get it working?
Then when I save up enough for a card (I've got the adapter) I won't get all confused like I am now .

Thanks Dunno I did the Upgrading the bootloader , but do I have to do the Replacing the original firmware as well?
If so I am gonna need a bit of help ,I've read through it several times but really don't understand some of it
(well most of it really) .
If I don't need to to replace the firmware then it's all good .

If I don't need to to replace the firmware then it's all good .
the steps are as follows,

1), load the PreV7 bootloader, (which you have already done).
2). set the boot sequence to Disk. see the bootloader installation for selecting boot preference.
3). follow the flash procedures as in the guideline.

with the new bootloader you can set where you want your dap to boot from, from Disk, RAM, or ROM, whenever you install a new build in a pre-flashed (rockboxed) player you must go to the bootloader menu and set it to boot from disk first, then flash a build.

If you dont want to flash a new build then you can flash the existing build which is already on your disk, (unless you've deleted it). If you do flash your player with rockbox you will loose the ability to dual boot to irivers OF, because you overwrite irivers firmware.

after flashing you must then reset the boot sequence to RAM or ROM, which will also obviate the need for the firmware to reside on your Hard Disk or CF card.

This is going to make me seem really really dumb but I cant seem to find any thing on this
" Get the latest "Current Build" and install it by executing "RoLo" (you must RoLo the new build or it will fail to flash)."
How do I execute Rolo ?

sometimes after loading a new current build it will automatically Rolo the build for you, but just to be sure, go to the .rockbox file
scroll down to "rockbox.iriver" , (execute this menu).

rockbox will now automatically reload the new build on your player, this is called "Rolo"

Rolo means load firmware which is on disk

O.K Done . Thanks heaps for explaining it out for me. I'm sure I wouldn't have such a hard time if I was younger .....
One last question now rockbox firmware is on the RAM do I still need the .rockbox folder on the root directory of my player?
