They are a surface mounted switch (ie: they don't have legs that go through the board) and are soldered onto the board . there is a solder connection on either side of the switch. You'll need a very fine tipped soldering iron (and a magnifying glass
EDIT there is a bit of a guide here hand-soldering teeny tiny c… |

Thanks for the response, hopefully I'll be able to get this to work because otherwise the player's in flawless condition - the silver color is kinda cool looking!

Well, I got everything I thought I needed, fine point soldering iron, flux pen, magnifier w/ alligator clips for holding the board, etc. Even with the increased magnication, I can't see where the solder should go. Does the switch need to be in place & then the solder applied? The switch is so small it's nearly impossible to hold it in place while attempting to solder (& I've never attempted to solder anything so small). I've examined the identical switches (Off, Record, etc) & can't see any evidence of solder on any of those switches. I'm afraid at this point I've gotten the board too hot around where the switch needs to go - as well as the switch itself (not sure, but I can't get it to come on by holding the switch to the board like before I messed with it). The only upside so far is I've pulled the HDD & it works - so I guess that's something... Any advice would be GREATLY Appreciated!

I guess another question would be that if it's just the switch that got cooked, could I use the REC switch as they look identical & I don't care much about recording anyway? Thanks again!

I'm sure there are people who could send you a de-soldered button from a dead board, I've got a couple of dead mainboards but I can't for the life of me find where my box of iRiver parts is - I want the audio chip of one of the boards to fix one of my H140's.
