Stupid Question

Stupid Question Of The Day:

Am I safe in my assumption (& yes - I know 'bout asuming) that the following is true (at least as far as "out of the box" goes):

a) An H100 is a 10Gb unit
b) An H120 is a 20Gb unit
c) An H140 is a 40Gb unit

I already am pretty sure that "b" & "c" are true, not sure about "a" & the wesite's not very clear... I just got a "non-working" H100 from eBay & it said in the description that it was a 20Gb unit. I got an H120 from the same company about a month ago for $30.00 (USD) & all it needed was a HDD replacement - so I have an H120 (w/ 30Gb HDD upgrade) that I only had to pay about $55.00 (USD) total (w/ HDD replacement cost) for - pretty sweet! I hope I get as lucky with this one... is it (the H100) the same size as an H120? Thanks in advance! P.S. I got the H100 today for only 11.60 (USD) & another broken H-10 6Gb ended right after that & went for more $$$ - go figure? Also - I CANNOT Get Over The Sound Quality Of This Player - Shame on whoever decided to discontinue this product line... these sound WAY Better than the H320/340 Series, & I thought those were awesome!

Yes the H100 is 10 Gb (and there was a h115 15Gb). The main difference between the H100/115 and the H120/140 apart from the 140's being thicker is the h10/115 have a different size RAM and therefore have a different firmware. So regardless of the hard drive size you must still use the correct firmware for the motherboard.

So to clarify. the same HDD's that will fit into a H120 will also work in an H100? Thanks So Much!

Yes they will. Just be sure to always use the firmware for the h100 and not the h120.

Is the difference in RAM enough that it limits the functionality of the player as compared to the H120 (file limits, skip buffer, etc.)? Thanks!

To my knowledge the functionality is identical.
IIRC the 10 and 15GB versions have 16MB whilst 20 and 40GB versions have 32MB. The only difference will be that the 20/40GB variants will access the hard drive less frequently to fill up the audio buffer*, making battery life slightly better.

*This is assuming that the audio is continuous, i.e. you don't change tracks. Otherwise the difference in functionality will probably be negligible.
