mk4007gal drive for ihp 120

Anyone know where I can find the MK4007GAL 40 GB in the US so I can replace that for my current drive that came with the player? I am getting the "Check HDD Connection" error, and have read it's the start of the drive going. I'd like to be able to at least upgrade the drive to 30 GB if not 40 GB with the drive above.

AFAIK the forty gig is next to impossible to find. But for a thirty gig ...
Try eBay Store - BCG Wholesale: ADD-ON's, Graphics Adapters
and eBay Australia Shop - Santech Network Solutions: Computers,Peripheral s
and have a look here Customize Your H1xx or H3xx - MisticRiverWiki and here http://www.misticriver.net/forums/pl...tml#post476129 and also check shade's post beneath NPswimdudes.

Thanks for the info, if anyone has a "secret undisclosed place" where to find a 40 GB, please let me know.

But it wouldn't be a secret anymore.
Believe me, if they ever become widely available there will be posts about it. Just keep checking the H1xx and H3xx forums.

Agreed. Any other suggestions besides the HDD that could be causing the "Check HDD" message? The interesting thing I noticed is that the player itself doesn't see the directories and music, but as soon as I attach the usb cable to the player then to the PC I can see all the music from the PC(thankfully I was able to grab my music off the player), so does that sound like HDD or something else? Want to try and figure out what this maybe before I go spend $150 on a 30GB drive.

I'm not convinced that it's the HDD, as, like you say, you can still access everything from the PC. I've never encountered the problem myself, so have never investigated a solution. Could be that the drive isn't getting enough/any power to spin up when not powered from the USB...

It's either a power or data problem, and power will be much easier to track down and fix.

Should I try and format the drive to rule out data? I already have the music stored in safe keeping.

I meant data transfer issues between the drive and the player, not the data on the drive itself. Apologies for the confusion.
I don't think that deleting the data will fix the problem, but a drive reformat may do. It's definitely worth a shot IMO.

Thanks in the process of doing a chkdsk and then a format. Like you said, it pobably won't help. Not sure where to go if it doesn't, since they don't make these guys anymore and I love the Optical Output, of which I haven't seen any other hdd based mp3 to offer it.

Yep, chkdsk and format didn't help. Any ideas where to go now?

the HDD is mounted to the main board via a daughter board, the two are soldered together, by pressing down on the daughter board you can see if it "makes" the connection, you will have to open the player to apply pressure to the daughter board.

This type of beaviour has been reported before, and the solution on that occassion was to do the above.
