iHP-120 will not power on
I need some help...
Today, i used my iHP-120 all morning and turned it off after i was done...as usual...and then when I tried turning it back on after a while, it wouldn't turn on. I knew for sure that the battery hadn't drained (because i had just charged it) so I kept trying to turn it on but it just sat there dead. Then I noticed that the red light was glowing in the optical output so I figured I'd let the battery drain till that light stopped glowing. After a while, the red light in the optical output went off so I plugged the iriver into the charger and tried to turn it on again...it still wouldn't turn on. The green charging indicator still glows when I try to charge it. But it refuses to turn on. What could have gone wrong? what should I do?I tried resetting it but that didn't work. Please help! The only thing I can think of is if the battery died a sudden death and somehow that made the optical out switch on .....
The first thing I'd try is to disconnect the battery connect the charger and see if it will powerup off the charger alone. If it does then replace the battery. There are instructions on disassembly here DA2WB18D2 iRiver iHP-100, iHP-120, iHP-140, iGP-100 Battery Installation Guide . I hope that is all that is wrong with it and it's easy fixable for you. P.S if it is a battery fault the cameronsino seems to be the best brand to get as a replacement. |

Hi..I finally got myself a screwdriver that fits into the iriver's screws (no t-5 torx wrenches available where i live and I didn't get one with my iriver) and opened her up. I disconnected the battery and plugged it in to the charger. The green charging light came on and kept blinking (which, i suppose, is an indicator that the battery's missing) but the h120 still wouldn't power on. I tried moving the battery connector around but that didn't work either. So I still have a dead iriver on my hands. Any ideas anybody?

I recently had a blinking green light after installing a new battery, it transpires that one of the pins wasn't making contact within the battery terminal on the board, I reseated the plug and all was well, so, That blinking green light indicates that there is a problem with the battery circuit, i.e. that it is unable to communicate with the battery.

The green light on my h120 stops blinking once I connect the battery, but the unit still doesn't power on. I'm assuming this means the battery isn't the problem. I've probably managed to fry one of the capacitors or something...right?

The only way to be certain that your battery is not the cause of your problems is to replace it. If you or someone else hasn't plugged a foreign charger into the H140 then it shouldn't be fried, and the power circuit should be ok. the problem is either, 1). Your charger 2). the battery 3). your DAP is defective

If you're up for trying to fix this yourself, now would be a good time to invest in a multimeter, if you don't already have one. First, check that the charger is outputting 5-and-a-bit* volts when not plugged into the player. If it's too high (>= 6V), then it is faulty, and may have damaged the player too. If it's too low, then it is unlikely to have caused any damage to the player, but could be the cause of the problem, combined with a dead battery. Next, check the battery, just to make sure it's still holding charge. If the player is a few years old then it may be worth getting a new battery anyway. Finally, read this thread and check the components mentioned. If you are not comfortable doing this, I would advise you take it to an electronics repair shop or a friend with electronics fault-finding experience and see if they can help. There is very little help one can give over the internet in such a situation, as it requires physically looking at voltage levels at various points on the mainboard. * Because there is no load on the charger, it will measure slightly greater than the specified 5V.
