No levels on h120 optical-in
I just got all the pieces for my taping rig, and when I go optical out from my UA-5 there are no levels that show up on my h120. I know I'm getting a signal from the UA-5, because there's the red light coming out of my cable. The line-in works on the h120. I also upgraded Rockbox to see if that was the problem. It didn't fix it, and it made the backlight flicker. What's the deal with all this?

What sample rate are you using? It may be too high/low for the iRiver. IIRC the H120 can only handle up to 48kHz.
Also, what bit-depth are you using? I don't think the H120 supports 24-bit recording so try 16 or 20-bit if you are using 24-bit. Finally, try shining a bright torch down the line-in socket to make sure there's no fluff blocking the optical sensor. Use a straightened paper-clip or pin to carefully remove any fluff. Or use a vacuum cleaner with a small attachment (like this).

There was nothing blocking the socket, so there is no problem there. But I did notice when I tried recording something, the file size on the iRiver was not growing, even though it should have been. I jiggled the cable coming out of the UA-5, and the filesize went up, but still no levels. Maybe that's the area the problem is coming from?
Edit: Ok, I've gotten advice from others that suggests I should get a new optical cable. Are there any reliable ones out there? Last edited by jonohull : September 10th, 2007 at 08:55 PM. |

I have several of their custom cables with combination of either toslink or mini optical, with adapters and different lengths.
