Thumbs up Poll: How long does your battery last?

I would be interested in the following information as well
  1. What size player do you have?
  2. What size battery?
  3. What firmware are you running?
  4. What sort of music files are you playing?
  5. Are you using a Rockbox Theme?
  6. At what volume setting did you run this test?

I thought 8:55 was a little short for a new 2200 battery, and I was worried about the battery as it appeared to have suffered a few knocks on the way here.

You might want to include a volume setting to use when performing the test, as far as I remember a volume setting of 20 was used for the factory test.

I decided to do some (random) testing. Rather than change one thing at a time, and run tests on my battery life (which would take at least 13 hours for each test) I changed everything and ran one test.

The point of this was twofold. I wanted to know if my new battery was OK, after it arrived rather worse for wear and I wanted to know if I could do anything to improve my battery's life.

So I copied an album encoded 192 bit mp3 to my player, then bypassed rockbox and booted into the original firmware. Set it playing that one album on repeat and after 10:15 the battery indicator still showed about 1/3 remaining.

I aborted this test, as I now estimate I will get somewhere about 14 hours total.

So to recap:

Playing ogg vorbis files at Q6 in rockbox with a very busy WPS - nearly 9 hours playing time.
Playing mp3 files at 192 bit with iRiver firmware 14 hours playing time.

I rather like the sound I'm getting from the ogg vorbis encoding, and the theme I am using is nice to look at, so it's likely that I will have to endure (only) 8 or 9 hours between recharges. Not such a great burden.

I did a test pretty recently and got around 15 hours. Can't remember the exact time. I'm surprised too as the unit is fairly old.

  • What size player do you have? - H140.
  • What size battery? - Standard.
  • What firmware are you running? - Vanilla v1.66
  • What sort of music files are you playing? Mostly 128k WMA, but also some VBR MP3 and Ogg Vorbis.
  • Are you using a Rockbox Theme? n/a
  • At what volume setting did you run this test? Using the standard settings, between 9 and 14 depending on the song. Using in-ear buds, it rarely needs to go above 15 and I don't think I've *ever* had to turn it above 20.

(edit) It might be helpful if I actually answered the question... I got just short of 12 hours. (Like, about eleven hours 50 minutes or something). I wasn't timing exactly, but I was out for just over twelve hours, and it gave up about ten minutes' walk from home. I was browsing quite a bit between albums, and had it on shuffle for a while.
