20 bit or 24 bit and 48khz or 96khz recording
Hi guys, I just stumbled onto here and never knew such a thing existed. It sounds like a great community, and this is my first post. I have had an iHP-120 for about 3 years now, and i love it, but I am not satisfied anymore with the 16 bit 44.1khz recording options. I am wondering if anyone knows if there is anything out there that can up the recording formats?

Welcome , Have you tried rockbox ?

You don't specify what input you're using, but IIRC Rockbox will record at whatever sampling rate it receives from the optical input (that's how S/PDIF is defined to operate). You should therefore be able to get at least 48kHz at 20bits, possibly more, depending on the source and whether the audio chip/processor in the iRiver can handle it.
Check the Rockbox site for chip specs, but I don't think 98kHz is possible, due to hardware limitations. I would imagine that 20bits is also the maximum bit depth achievable. If you're recording using the line input then you are unlikely to gain much (if any) signal quality by recording at >16bit 44.1kHz resolution as the iRiver preamp isn't up to that sort of quality IIRC. Again, check on the Rockbox site and read the specs though, as I may be mistaken.
