Adding feet, improving joystick
After finishing a building project, I had some leftover self-adhesive rubber (silicone?) feet in my shack. I found I could solve two problems with them. Firstly, my DAPs mostly sit on a table, and there is nothing to prevent my DAPs from slipping if there is some tension applied (like a USB cable). Secondly, the H120 joystick is difficult to manouver, one tends to press down instead of up/down or left/right.
The rubber feet are 3 mm tall and 7 mm diameter; and transparent. After I put on one in each corner the player is much more stable and will not slip easily. Putting it on the top of the joystick was a solution a bit less elegant, since the self-adhesive back of the rubber couldn't contact with the dented top. So I put a drop of transparent glue on the top and applied pressure until the glue fastened. I am delighted to say that the joystick now moves just the way I want it to! Of course this mod increases the height of the player, and those who usually keep the H120 (or H320 for that matter, sans joystick mod) in a tight pocket may not want to do it. I'm sure these items are available most anywhere; I got mine from an electronics company in Sweden. The link is http://www.elfa.se/elfa-bin/dyndok.p...htm?_50_570_21 |

Interesting ideas.
I use a bit of insulating tape on the joystick which fits in the 'dent' nicely. It needs replacing every so often as it sometimes gets unstuck, but it's a cheap and removable alternative to gluing anything onto the player. I keep my H120 in its iSkin, so there's no chance of it slipping around.

Hi bmjelde,
I use a clear 3MM Bumpon (Cat. No. SJ5370R25; 144 Bumpons per sheet) for the joystick button and under the player. Also, I attached the Bumpon to the joystick button of the H340 remote control that I use with my H1X0 player (http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=247787). Quote:

Have used the "rubber bumper mod" on the joystick for 3 years now and it's great--iRiver originally should have rubberized the center of the joystick, for ease of use. Others have suggested filling the joystick indentation with a drop of hot glue from a glue gun.
Especially convenient for use when driving or when the player is across a desk. |

Same here. For my joystick, I bought some adhesive small rubber bumpers similar to what the OP used underneath his player. However, these "gum drops" are not very flexible and eventually would pop off since they can't stick to the indented joystick surface. I was about to give up, but noticed that the bumpers I bought came in an adhesive sheet of eight or so....and in-between each bumper is clear flat rubber with the same adhesive on the back. Using a regular paper hole punch, I punched out a small disk from between the bumpers and ended up with a perfect little rubber disk that is somewhat flexible, sticks great, has a good tactile feel, and is low profile. Problem solved. Last edited by Wolfen : July 17th, 2007 at 10:14 AM. |

Hmm, never thought to do that--will give it a try! Altho I do like how the bumper rises up from the player--makes the joystick really into a joystick, and very easy to use (until the glue becomes older and the bumper moves a bit--and then I just replace the bumper with a new one, maybe every 4-6 months or so).

I have one or two spare joystick tops and have been pondering using a milling machine to mill out a small 'crater' where the dip is, using a milling tool creates a flat base to the hole rather than a cone if a drill bit were used, then I could stick a small rubber foot in the 'crater' so it wouldn't stick out much further than the original joystick but would be nice & grippy.
