CompactFlash for H1xx series?
~~~~~
*This is all pure speculation* ~~~~~ I have a (very probably) fried h140 (see previous post). The other day i disassembled it to salvage the hard drive, and i noticed that the connectors for for drive are exactly alike for those of a common compactflash drive. Coincidentally, i also have a fried ipod mini (*crowd hisses with disapproval*), however, i found that the ipod connector for the compact flash used in the mini is exactly the same as the connector used in H1xx series. Also: H1xx series is just a plain old IDE interface. Compact flash can be made to behave like IDE (*i think*. ben heck did something awhile ago and i vaguely remember it) so.....do we think it is even remotely possible to grab a cheap 1gb CF card and bung it in a H1xx series? and yes i do realise that most people's problems are with a fried board, but still for the minority out there who have dropped their iriver players a off a few balconies... ~~~~~ *end speculation* ~~~~~ |
Well, yes and no. It's not as simple as that. You'll need one of those cf to ide converters, pretty readily and cheaply available - I got one on ebay from Hong Kong for 10$US total (inc shipping). Most of these have male 2.5in ide interfaces, so then you'll need a female 2.5in > female 1.8in ide adaptor cable, not so readily available - in fact no-one seems to make them. Yet. Also, count your connectors on the iriver end - are there 40 pins or 44?
Cheap cf cards of a decent size are still pretty expensive, but they'll probably go down soon. 8gb ones are less than 100$ now, but as bigger ones are introduced, the 16gb ones should become affordable. See http://geektechnique.org/projectlab/...lmost-any-ipod for more on this. |
