I don't know yet, since I don't have a replacement battery to test it with. But I wouldn't guess so, since the screen had a big black spot from the pressure, it all seemed pretty bad...

That happened to my player when i first changed the battery. I have since replaced it with a Cameron Sino one and had absolutely no problems since. Good luck to you.

I'm hearing too many "accidents" like this and starting to get scared myself. How does it happen ? How can one prevent it ?
Do you overcharge it ? overheat it ? is it cause of cheap battery replacement ?
I've got one myself and so far so good, been using one for about a year, can't recall which company made it, but they're all made in china.

I've read numerous threads about the ballooning battery issue. It seems that in most cases, the player will work work just fine when you relieve the pressure (by opening the case, for example). I've never experienced this problem, so I can't tell you for sure. But I think your player will be OK. Just get a new battery.

I don't think it is caused by overcharge or overheat. The replacement batteries are of higher capacity than the original ones, so the charging current should be fine, rather on the low side. However, my frightening assumption is: All replacement batteries are actually too thick and are put under pressure when the iriver case is closed. Maybe LiIon batteries don't tolerate pressure? Maybe the pressure starts a secondary chemical reaction that causes the ballooning? Batteries work with chemical reactions, and chemical reactions are pressure- and temperature-dependent. Maybe the external pressure prevents the generated Hydrogen from being absorbed?

WOW! I've never seen a battery balloon before. Looks scary. I replaced my battery summer of 06 with a Cameron Sino battery and it's been working fine.
cheers

I can only recommend the Cameron Sino battery. I used a no name one first and it ballooned. Second was a 22mAh and not had any problems whatsoever. Be lucky bro....
