ihp 140 problems. help please!

After a browse through i didnt seem to notice anything similar to my problem but seems like people here know their stuff so hopefully you can help!

I have an ihp 140 that has a few problems needing fixing.
Basicly i put on a rockbox firmware in order to play flac files. I did this no problem and everything seemed to be working fine, able to switch between rockbox and iriver firmware without any problems. It has since become a tad muddled and confused. It is very slow accesing folders and files, tracks have become jittery and some do not play atall and the player seemingly skips untill it finds a playable track.

The firmwares are Rockbox bootloader version 6 or ver-cvs060417 and the original iriver h100 series version 1.66e.

The main problem is that i cannot access the drive when plugged in via usb.
The PC detects the ihp140 as soon as it is conected and turned on, it takes sometime to appear in 'My Computer'. When i attempt to open the drive it opens up the autoplay scanner as if it is scanning the drive or files (normal procedure when connecting drive to pc) but there are no files or folders visible in the scan box. When this is finnished a promt appears saying ' The disk in drive x is not formatted. Would you like to format now? Yes/No'.

If i could access the disk i could remove the rockbox firmware and/or files and begin afresh but as this cannot be done there doesnt seem to be any other option other than formating, although i realise there are issue about FAT32 vs NTFS etc. and wether the 40GB can still be fully used after FAT32 formating. How reliable is the formatting process. What is the best way to go about it? I could run the format on either XP Home or Pro.

Any help or suggestions on how to get my baby going again would be much apreciated, thankyou! Mic

Same problem happened to me before, I couldn't access any files in the drive from my pc, nor could I format the disk. (I got a frozen screen every time I tried)

Player couldn't play most of the files in the disk, and took alot of time finding a playable one. But the radio works perfect still. So I knew it's the hard drive that's causing the prob.

How did I fix it? well, I bought a replacement hard drive, and did the replacement, now it works as good as new.

you cant format fat32 from XP

get swiss knife. format from there, then run error check from windows.

you might simply be up for a new drive as stated.
