frankensteining an h120

Real Quick,

Is it possible to move the battery outside the case gaffers tape it to the back and pick up the 3.8 mm, and fit in a 60GB - MK6006GAH - 8mm high-toshiba drive?

It's my first post. I dropped my H120 several times across its life, and now the drive is exhibiting brain damage. Rather then commit to the 30GB - 5mm high -or the 40, as the 40 GB is nowhere to be found by mere mortals, why not just go for the gusto and re-arrange the guts? I'm ready to move to a Cowon Q5 should this go wrong, but Cowon's not ready for me.

Possible or just dumb?

Sure it's possible...but it would be ugly.

Yes it's possible. It was discussed quite a bit in another thread. Click here to read it. Based on what I read, it's not a good idea to do it.

You'd be better off obtaining a case from a fried h140 and swapping a few bits (end caps and sides).

Of course It's possible to have the battery outside the casing. The only problem is the battery needs some kind of protection from mechanical damage. I solved the problem with an additional aluminium back plate screwed to the endcaps. (pictures in previously the linked thread) Tape would IMHO not be enough.

Maybe just putting a plate of some sort on the back of the battery and taping the whole thing. That would somewhat protect the battery from puncturing. But don't quote me on that.
