I've had mine 2-3 months. I really like it.

pros:
-looks great
-battery life
-so far reliable
-no software to use
-battery life

cons:
-locked up once on a file that my other HD player plays fine??
-sound is a little cold and metallic for my tastes. Amping has helped this problem somewhat.
-joystick is a little futzy...but overall ok.

I'd give it a B+ or A- as an overall grade.

Very happy. In my opinion, it was by far the best player available when I purchased it, and it still is.

(I've given more that my $0.02 in other threads, so I'll spare you here)

My 3 week ihp-140 is the love of my life. The only thing that bothers me is that if I listen to music in a subfolder, once the subfolder is done, it goes to the next subfolder instead of the rest of my folder or even the next folder.

Had my iHP-120 for about 11 months now, and I have no complaints at all, it's an excellent DAP, and goes great with my Eggos.

I'm quite glad I didn't go with my first choice, the Zen Xtra, cause after fiddling with one my friend had bought, it was way too flimsy and bland for my liking... and the jog-wheel navigation was ridiculous.

I am happy with it, but I would be fully content with it if it had gapless playback.

I first bought Dell DJ 15 G for $200 when I knew little about DAP 8 months ago. Since it can not be used as external hard drive without software and I hate Musicmatch. I returned it in a week and bought H140 for $429 after reading a lot of reviews on cnet.com. Well I wish I bought H120 for $299. But still I am very happy with H140 rather than the Dell brick. I do compare Ipod 3rd 40G with H140, price is similar, but ipod battery only last 6 h and a lot of batteries failed in one or two years. Apple charges $100 for a battery replacement, although you can do it by your self for only $29. Apple charges too much!

sort of off topic, but how does the iriver deal with play lists?
I created a playlist in winamp, and have saved it
Do i just stick it in some random folder in my h120 (when i get it) and if so, do the songs have to be in the same folder - do they just have to be on the machine somewhere

I am not sure this is right. May be you can cut some gap when you rip the CD.

As long as it's somewhere on the hard drive, the iRiver will see it. When you're at the 'stop' screen (startup) you just press the A-B button and it will list all of the playlists on the hard drive.

[quote=FlameGrilled]Cool888 ...
Shuffle mode, on all DAP's, hits the battery endurance more than sequential play.

It's a simple matter of the drive having to seek all over the place to get the various bits of data that ensures HDD activity goes up a bit rather than less (as some people have been mislead to believe).
QUOTE]

I know that you are right FlameGrilled, but....

It does raise an interesting point. Considering that we don't have real shuffle and that the player should be able to know what it is going to play next since there is some very predictable algorithm controlling shuffle, it seems that the frequent disc spin ups are really very wasteful. I could almost see I-river touting the pseudo-shuffle as a feature if it meant that the disc spinned up less frequently, therefore causing shuffle mode to drain less battery.

Makes ya think...

I bought the 140 because I needed optical inputs and recording capability. In addition to the great sound folks have been talking about, I have a frequent need to record our band and also record other live impromtu situations. So far I am pleased with the 140. I wish it was lighter but it works great.

Cool

I haven't seen mentioned the fact that the H series can accomdate the battery upgrade mentioned on MR that will give it a 30+ hr. capability. As far as I know, this isn't possible with any other similar DAP. Not only that, my bet is that Rockbox will give us what we have been waiting for by January. This combination would be pretty tough to beat!

My h120 has just arrived from Amazon! (early - the earliest was meant to be tomorrow but hey I'm not complaining)
Everything oozes quality about it - the sound quality seems excellent (judging from the tacky iriver tune on the player)
I have yet to fiddle around with the player, because I immediately plugged it into my pc and have started copying my 5gbs of music onto the player (only regret: I didn't buy a usb 2 port)
When the music is transferred, should I immediately update firmware?

What? You DARE besmirch the musical brilliance that is the iRiver demo tune? Release the hounds!

Good thing that iRiver makes some good players... I'd hate to think they'd have to fall back on their music career.

Yes. You can also charge them in an iSkin case as well.

I'm one of the fortunate ones who never had a ticking noise I suppose.

Btw, I love my iHP-120. It lays next to me on my bed and I listen to it when I go to sleep every night.

I only hear the ticking noise when it's extremely quiet around me, ie. at night. One 'solution' is use the other line-out output. The remote controls the vol for the l/o too

Yeah you could just take the remote off completely if the DAP's lying next to you - remote's for "out and about" really, where you're not likely to hear the ticking anyway, due to the sounds in the environment around you.
