H140 remote: remove clip + lengthen cable?

Hello all. Im putting a custom system in my new car and am going to OF COURSE implement my H1(6)0

Ive been trying to figure out where to mount the player where it is easily accessible, and then I realized I could possibly use the remote, mounted on the steering wheel!

Id like to remove the aligator clip from the back. Possible?
would also like to consider lengthening the cable if necessary. this seems pretty unlikely, but I thought I'd ask

anyone have experience with either of these "mods?"

thanks in advance.

(oh and, I searched...hard to figure what keywords on this one)

Removing the croc clip from the LCD remote is easy, undo the screw on the back then with a pair of pliers put them into the recess where the headphone socket is, but not inside the socket, then open them up and it'll pry the two halves of the remote open.
Once inside undo the screw in the center of the circuitboard, at the opposite end of the headphone socket lift and pull the circuitboard, underneath that you'll find the two screws that hold the croc clip in place.

Several people including me have taken our LCD remotes apart to rotate the crock clip 180degrees, for me it means I can clip it to my top just under my chin and have the wires hanging down underneath the top.

Extending the wire will be tricky because there's 13 (if I remember rightly) wires inside the remote wire, it can be done but it probably won't be very neat looking.

Thank you for the info. The remote is so delicate I didnt want to risk it. Saw the screw, took it out, and didnt get much play trying to pry open, but your suggestion of pliers might work.

thanks!

Hi D-Sub, I'm doing the same thing with an h300 remote (no LCD), do you have plans to re-wire the remote buttons to larger thumb-friendly ones on your wheel? The soldering will be a bit tricky but I think it can be done, let me know how you go!
