odd whining noise from hd

Hi All

had my h140 for a wk now, and working fine

Though on a couple of occassions when I use it for data transfer and its connected to the pc, the hd starts to make a high pitched noise while the red light is on. The player is still functioning and operates as normal; and when I disconnect or switch off/on again noise disappears & works fine. And it works fine with music playback all the time

just wondering if this is some kind glitch or something going wrong.

sc

Uh oh. Odd noises from HDs are very bad. I'd back up my music and start trying to get an RMA if I were you.

Sounds normal to me. Does the sound 'power up' and then go, while it's connected to the PC?

Thanks for the replies so far.

Though the noise isn't the usual low level type sound the hd when it's spinning. This is more like a high pitched squealing sound which slightly varies in pitch. Only happened twice, and like I said, the unit is working perfectly. It only happened on immediate connection to the pc and continued until switched off.

It's one of those 'faults'/issues that is very rare, can't be simply reproduced. So if I did send it back, likely to say there's nothing wrong with it as it won't happen during testing.

The disc in my iriver always makes a really high pitched sound when it spins, although its really quiet and you can harly hear it. I thought this was normal. Ive had my iriver since may and ive had no problems with it.
