Hard drive ROOT?

Having managed to overcome many hard drive problems, hang ups etc, I now have music safely deposited and playable, on my iHP120.
Problem...... The iHP120 no longer has a ROOT folder.
I must have deleted it in error.
I'm trying to upgrade the unit to 1.60.
The Upgrade Instructions say:
"Copy the Hex file to the ROOT of the player".
As I don't have a "ROOT" how can I do this.?
I have tried adding the hex file to the unit's hard drive.
but "it" can't find the hex file when I try to upgrade.

Solutions anyone?

The Cherries.

Umm ROOT means just inside it, so not in any folders...Just with the folders that are there, mine is,

ROOT->Artist->Album->blah blah blah

In computer jargon, ROOT is the uppermost level of a hierarchy. Just navigate up as far as you can in the directory structure. That's the root directory.

OK, I understand the ROOT structure, but does that mean that if I put the Hex update file, onto my iHP120 hard drive, and not in any particular place or folder, the system should be able to find, and update from it?

If so , it doesn't work for me.

Yes, put the .hex file (not the .zip) directly on the drive, not in any folder. After you put the file in there you have to go to the player's options and tell it to update. It won't do it automatically. Select upgrade firmware, wait the minute or so it takes, then your player will turn off. Turn it back on and you will be set.

If the above steps don't work for you, something is very wrong.

The upgrade file downloads as an .hex file, no zip involved.
Installed it on my iHP120 hard drive, not in a folder.
General/Firmware upgrade/Are you sure/Yes...........nothin g.
Unit shuts down having given no indication of an upgrade taking place.
Restart and I'm still running the same 1.40 version.

A call to homebase might be needed I fear. Anyone know if the 800
number is free from Canada as well as the USA?
Guess I'll find out on Monday.

The Cherries. Thanks for your input so far.

Where are you downloading your .hex from? Which site? Have you tried a .hex firmware from another site? Have you tried a different region's firmware? There's US, European, Japan, and Korean versions.

If these ideas still don't work, you will have to call CS as you already know....... sorry I can't be of more help.

Problem solved. Unit upgraded.

Thanks Reddshack for the pointer re trying to download from another site.
I took your advice and downloaded from the Euro site.
That was when I noticed the difference in the file I had downloaded compared to the file I had previously download from the USA site.
For some unknown reason the file I had from the USA site was named thus: ihp_120-1.hex

The Euro site file was a zip file that extracted to ihp_120.hex

I believe that windows XP put the extra -1 into the .hex file name.

Thanks again.

Just to prove my point I downloaded the file again from the USA site and XP named it ihp_120-2.hex, as I already had ihp_120-1.hex.
Interesting to note that I wasn't informed that an ihp_120.hex file was already on my hard drive.

Anyone else run into this problem???

The Cherries

It's not a problem, but instead a naming scheme to prevent overwriting files with the same name as the one you're downloading. Which browser are you using?

Browser....Firefox 1.0.

Thanks for the info. On searching my Downloads folder I see that I have the original .hex file for the 1.40 upgrade.

Now it all makes sense.

Thanks to Salt Lake Ciity and Singapore.

We can always learn from others.
