Question Q's about sleep timer and connecting H w/stereo

Hey all,

I've been reading this forum for a while and finally decided to sign up. Nice to see more interesting conversation rather than all the whining that you see on the iriver forum.

On to the questions....

Does anybody else have problems with there sleep timer? Mine works about half the time and then I keep checking to see if it's working or not, hence... it's not really working at all cause I can't fall asleep. Is this a glitch with all units or just mine?

Also, I want to hook up my H-120 to an amp and use it as a stereo. Now do I use the optical out and the male to male cord they give you with it to do this? I have speakers and the H-120 but I need to buy an amp to complete the set up and the amps I've looked at seem to have a different type of input for optical in. Anyway I'm just loookin for some help in this area.

Thanks a lot!

Greg

If you want to use the optical input on the amp then you need to go out and buy an optical cable, you can't use the male to male one that comes with the unit.

I have same timer problem. Sometimes it works but sometimes it did not.

I bought a headphone amp from Radio shark for 22$. It increases out put by 40%.

I don't know about H340. I only have H-140 which only has a timer but no stopwatch.

So what is the male to male cord for?

How much is an optical cable that I can hook up to an amp and how much can expect to pay for for a half decent amp that has optical in?

Thanks a lot

G

The male cable is for hooking up analog. Optical is digital, and therefor better (very simplistic answer). If you are looking to buy an amp for a home theater type system, i would suggest doing a bit of research.

Timer problem

I retested the timer yesterday. It seems if you want it work, you need to press stop playing first (not pause), then set timer, it will work. If you set timer when it is playing, it does not work.

I found H-140 is such a toy that you find something new every day!

The male-male cord is for an analogue link. Most stereos will need a minijack to dual phono cable though. However it works a treat with the 'aux' socket on my car stereo and also with the Creative Travelsound speakers.

You can expect to pay about 15 quid or more for an optical cable with the correct connector (TOSlink to mini-optical). They are the same cables that most minidisc decks use.

Just about all 'AV' amps these days have digital in (for DVD connecticity). Just make sure whatever amp you get has enough connections to support future needs (I have DVD, Xbox and iRiver which fill all available digital inputs on mine) and of course supports optical digital as opposed to coaxial digital which would require a converter box.

little-known fact: The male-to-male cord is illegal in many southern states
