Line-in inbalance..

Hey all, new user,

I just got my H120 Friday, and so far I've been thrilled! However my turned into when I started testing it's recording capabilities. After several tests (using different mics and lines as the source) and trying out the line-in/external-mic/internal-mic in each of them, I've come to the conclusion that it records at a lower volume on the right channel, and the bass is considerably lower there as well.

Is this a known problem? Is my H120 defective? Does it take many weeks for iRiver to respond and exchange for a new one?

Thanks.

I've not had any problems as you have suggested above. Mine records L and R at equal levels and the bass is not lower anywhere. I'm not sure what to tell you..... It sounds like your line-in jack itself has gone bad.

Remember that the line-in is a stereo input. Are all the cables you have been using stereo cables? That really has to suck bad. Maybe give it a few more tests.

Yeap all stereo. And it actually does record in stereo, I do hear the differences between the channels. But it's clear by looking at the waveform that it's not perfectly balanced.

I did do a few more tests sicne the time I posted my original message. I can compensate for the flaw with a bit of EQing in soundforge. And I'll be primarily usign the recording features to record live material, so in the end I'll have to EQ anyways. So that's a relitavely quick fix, but it's still annoying.

Aside from that I'm incredibly happy with this product! And to think at first I was considering an iPod.

The player has an option to control the stereo channel output under the sound options; perhaps it's set incorrectly?

Another note; if you do have to send the player back, iRiver America are great with returns; I got an RMA number, sent in mine from the UK under warranty, and they sent me back a new player within a few days; including shipping times!
