Lack of communication :-)

Alas my two month old iHP-120 refuses to converse with my computer.
First the download speed dropped to below USB1.0 rates, then no transfer @ all.
My computer doesn't recognise the unit as a USB device.
It's listed on my computer as a "Local Disk"
In "My Computer" running winXP, it gives no statistics re drive size or free space for this Local Disk.
I have tried the "120" on a different computer with alas the same results.
I've tried different USB "slots" USB1.0 and USB2.0. Also tried a different USB cable. No go.

I must add that I received a reply from iRiver tech support very quickly, so far so good, if you don't include the non working 120.

Oh I must add that the unit does work, all the songs play etc etc, I just can't modify what I have installed.

Have you tried the soft reset of the player? Have you tried to delete it from the device manager in windows?

Tried everything under the sun and then sum.
None of the software I have, Norton, Diskeeper, would recognise the drive.
I have managed to "format" the drive. At least I can now access the bl**dy thing. Of course I've lost all my files but that's no loss as I was in the process of replacing them with better rips anyway.
The only remaining problem is download speeds or should I say lack of them.
I'm working on that problem. Fingers crossed.

that sucks (i would charge, reset, then otf format) i know you may have already done this, but it's worth a try to do it again in that order. Also, check and see if your computer has a virus.

I've managed to bring back my iHP-120 from the dead.
A format, and re-installing all my files has the unit up and working again.
NO idea why the 120 was not being recognised by my computer, or wouldn't even communicate with it.
Still being shown as a "Local hard Drive", and not an iHP-120 as I believe it
was before my troubles.
Hoping that this will be end of my iHP-120 problems for a while.
Fingers crossed.
Happy Thanksgiving to those in Canada?

PBrewer. up the cherries.
