Speaking of Lyrics support, what is the difference between Lyric support with 1.40 firmware and 1.50N firmware??

So what's the deal with this MoodLogic software linked to on the iRiver site (they've removed the iHP-Manger software).

Is this a special version of MoodLogic just for iRiver users?

Well, yes and no. The dates are 'expected' as to when they will be done. And also they never specified what year!! I'm sure they meant 2005.

drdestiny, it's not a special version, its just that there is a plugin for connecting portable players...but you have to pay to use it. Very annoying, to put it lightly.

So is this MoodLogic program any good then?

I have to say that both the iRiver H-series webpage AND (unfortunately) Jeff post above are really quite misleading. The only indication anywhere that it actually requires another program which you have to buy is at the top of the information page where it says "MoodLogic Upgrade Information".

Not impressed.

Im having trouble understanding where this thread is going. The MoodLogic software is free of charge. I see nothing on the linked page referring to a charge for the software or an upgrade. I've been up for 20hrs now though so I could be missing it.

The database file should be on the player now. Just check it is and then turn the database on.

You can always rescan in the future to update.

BigD, does the manager simply create the database file, or does it physically re-arrange the music files too (hope not)? Also, does it fix filenames that are too long?

It basically scans all the files on the iHP. Creates the database using all tagged files less than 52 characters. It generates a text file with all the failures along with the database.

You need to turn on DB Scan in the General menu of the player. It then uses the iRivNavi file you generated before.

I tried using the Moodlogice program, it worked okay except that any songs that were tagged with Japanese characters would be skipped by the program, and it wouldn't tell me they were skipped. I dound it out for myself when I searched through the database trying to find the specific songs.

Well, I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, shook off all the bad feelings I had towards the original DB, and gave this one a shot. Now, I may be missing something, but if I'm correct, the only difference between the "mood logic" DB and the original Iriver DB, is that there is now support for WMA and Ogg files. That's where the differences end. As you can see here, there's still a problem with how files are scanned and where errors come up. I'm trying to decide if these are based on the 52 character limit or otherwise.

Furthermore, things are STILL a mess. There are things that just don't wash with me. For instance, when viewing albums or random files, this new DB does not denote whether or not the file is Ogg, Mp3 or otherwise with the file icon. All I see is an arrow icon, like a normal "play" icon. I have 3 Diana Krall Albums on my player, and one of them is in Ogg, the others in Mp3. The two Mp3 albums show up under artist, but the Ogg album does not. It shows up under the album section ? They're all tagged with her name in the artist field, so this is perplexing.

What else... I dunno, overall, I am very far from impressed with this still. The only thing that will ever save the DB brosing is a totally revised GUI, because as things stand, it's a real nightmare when browsing through so many artists, albums genres and especially song titles. This GUI NEEDS a search function with sub sections. For example, the first string is the alphabet. (This should go for any mode you're in) Pick a letter, and all artists, or albums, genres or songs come up which start with that letter. I think it's obvious what it should do from there. Sorry, not even close to being satisfied with it.

Doug gives it two thumbs down. Sorry, but if people who don't even work for Iriver can come up with DB solutions that have already addressed the WMA and Ogg issue, then Iriver had more than enough time to do it as well. And they finally did. Big fregin' hurah.... Why is it called mood logic anyway ? It's nothing different from the original Iriver DB...possible worse in that you actually have to install software on your PC in order to update !
