Pretty much everything about it!
The battery life, the audio quality, drag and drop capability, the optical and analogue inputs and outputs, the durable metal casing, the built in FM radio, the LCD remote and most of all, the fantastic community associated with it known as MisticRiver.

It holds 350+ of my CDs at a rip-rate that sounds superb, so I can go out hiking and decide on the spur of the moment what I might like to listen to. With a battery that rarely has run out on me (only when I've been forgetful to charge it overnight), an FM radio that I can switch to also on the spur of the moment (no accessory needed), and Rockbox software that I can customize, along with drag-and-drop control that keeps me, and not the player, in charge.

I like the fact that H100 can have Rockbox as a replacement firmware.

From this as a start comes everything else that shadebass said!
I am a verry happy man in DAP terms!

Yeah I got a bit carried away there. What can I say - it's just perfect!

With Rockbox, I like fade in/out capabilities and gapless playback, in addition to being able to change the recording level.
Then there's the great plugins and Rockboy!

I also prefer the joystick over normal buttons (like the H3xx). I makes playing games easier.

1. Incredible recording capabilities (including a built in mic preamp!)
2. Rockboxability
3. Standard, non-proprietary USB cable
4. UMS device
5. The free case that came with it (it actually works and I never remove it!)

The fact that I've had it for quite some time (I'm thinking I just passed the 3 year mark not too long ago), have abused the heck out of it, and the only part of it that shows any wear is the belt clip on the case which is now bare metal.

The options to mod mine have made it last way longer than I ever expected. I now have a 2200mah 1st/2nd gen iPod battery which gives out about 28 hours of juice; Rockbox is kickass firmware way better than the stock firmware; & my iSkin keeps it clean & pristine. However above all this I would have to say the audio quality is second to none, through a simple pair of Sennheiser PX200s it just craps all over the competition.

Where to begin. Let's see.

The H1xx was great even when they were new but ever since Rockbox was working for them they have turned into something absolutely phenomenal.

I remember first putting Rockbox on my player about a year ago. I thought it was great then but even it has shattered my wildest expectations. It just works like a DAP should: plays everything I can throw at it for the most part and gaplessly. I can't see how that isn't a mandatory feature for all DAPs. The customisable WPS is a nice touch, and with the optical out I can drive a stereo as good as anything else.

Drag and drop and filetree navigation too are huge selling points for me as I already have taken the time to organise my music the way I want to and don't need software to do it for me.

I could probably go on for days, but needless to say I still consider my H140 to be the best investment I ever made.

i love the way it looks and sounds. also how they included a remote, case and all the cables you might want or need. the original presentation of the product made me feel like they were proud of it, and cared about the customer.

You're absolutely right and I couldn't agree more. That was back in the day when most DAP companies packed a lot of extras. Not saying that it's entirely intentional but packaging nowadays has really started to skimp.

Oh well, that just makes me more thankful of what I have

I like saying it's better than the iPod. When people yell at me and then list the iPod's few features, I go down the plugin list and read it to them.

rofl Oops. I completely read your post wrong

But the general public now care about how thin and the way it looks now more than how well it will function.

1. Looks
2. Style (What their friends would say etc)
3. How the player actually bloody works.

I get a lot of stick from my friends complaining about how "Thick" the H120 is :/

The drag and drop capability is what tipped the balance for me back when I was evaluating DAPs (seems like that was about two years ago). The other players I looked at required a dock or iTunes or WMP or some other such nonsense just to transfer the music files (and I don't have DRM-infested music). And if I remember correctly, some of the players would not allow you to transfer your music back to a computer. That's absurd. Gotta love the UMS capability of the H series.

(I know I haven't been around for what seems like ages, but...)

Everything about it. The capacity, the quality, the flexibility, the fact that I can have all my music wherever I go when ever I want, Rockbox, battery life, Rockbox again, the fact that it's a little bit different from the herd, Rockbox again (as it gave the H series a whole new lease of life), the remote, the ease of use even of the stock firmware.

It's just great. Full stop.

JB

I love the looks, it looks techy and tough. Most others look like converted portable makeup cases. I love the joystick, rockbox and the remote.
Also I love all the support given here by the citizens of the misticriver community.
